New 'True Blue' LEDs Feature 463nm Wavelength and High Optical Power Suitable for Medical Applications

Latham, New York: The TSB "True Blue" LEDs utilizes the most recent innovation in InGaN/SiC technology. The die improvement to Cotco's High Brightness LED family greatly enhances the performance and the ability to obtain a "True Blue" wavelength required for a variety of medical applications. The process combines highly efficient InGaN materials with a Silicon Carbide (SiC) substrate in a geometrically enhanced vertical chip structure, to maximize total light extraction. This material also incorporates a current distribution layer that requires only a single wire bond for increased reliability.

Advancements in skin and pain relief treatments are turning more and more medical manufacturers to Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology. According to clinical studies, packets of light energy from LED's can benefit skin health in a variety of ways including non-invasive therapies for skin rejuvenation and healing. Blue LED light is also believed to be a contractor and restrictor that can aid in pain relief and the reduction of swelling. Blue LED therapies can be used where traditional treatments such as ice are currently being used. As light therapies evolve, the uses of LEDs and their unique properties will continue to be expanded within the medical community.
