Unitrends Introduces Added Rapid Recovery Capabilities for Small, Mid-Sized Enterprise
Update provides system, data protection, Hot BareMetal capabilities for Linux, one-step file registry protection for Windows Active Directory, faster data compression
COLUMBIA, S.C., April 18 / -- Unitrends(TM) (http://www.unitrends.com/), a pioneer in the development of Business Systems Continuity solutions, today announced the GOLD release of the Rapid Recovery System, providing higher performance, improved speeds and even greater data and system protection than ever before across multiple Operating System platforms.
Among the enhancements announced today are increased capabilities to Unitrends' Hot BareMetal(TM) capability, at the core of its exclusive Continuous System Protection(SM), allowing Linux users, running SuSe/Novell, Red Hat, Debian, Gentoo and more, to capture an image of the entire operating system at any point in time, without having to first shut down the server application or interrupt operations. Also included is the ability to conduct a Windows-based BareMetal recovery to recover key data to heterogeneous hardware, giving IT personnel greater flexibility and lower cost options than ever before.
The additions are the first major enhancements to the company's Rapid Recovery System since its introduction in December. Rapid Recovery enables small and mid-sized business (SMBs) to quickly recover entire systems as well as data or even individual files they need to be back in business from a system failure, a data disaster strikes, or simply a file is lost or accidentally deleted.
"Linux users now have the ability to quickly recover from a system crash, without having to resort to cumbersome or intensive procedures," said Mark Phillippi, Unitrends' Vice President of Product Technology. "Small and mid-sized organizations are increasingly taking advantage of Linux-based servers; providing them with the means to get back in business within minutes, instead of hours or days, means they no longer have to endure long periods of downtime when failures occur. This is key to their very ability to do business."
Additional capabilities of the Unitrends' Rapid Recovery System include:
o Enhancements for Windows BareMetal recovery, significantly enhancing the ability to recover to dissimilar hardware;
o Expansion of the Continuous Exchange Protection (CEP) providing message-level recovery capabilities;
o Improvements in SQL Server backup and restore options, providing a simple and non-intrusive testing for Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery purposes;
o Additional support for Windows Active Directory, featuring single file registry backup;
o A new, exclusive operating system that powers Unitrends' Data Protection Units(TM) (DPUs) during the recovery process, with a strong focus on increased security; and
o An upgraded version of the company's RX9(TM) hardware-based data compression, giving Rapid Recovery appliances the ability to stream information at a sustained rate of more than 12 gigabytes per minute.
The upgrades to Unitrends' Rapid Recovery System are integrated into the existing appliance and available at no additional charge to existing customers who have a current maintenance agreement.
