Raychem Circuit Protection Introduces RoHS-compliant SMD PolySwitch Devices for Automotive Market

MENLO PARK, Calif.--April 14, 2006--Raychem Circuit Protection, a business unit of Tyco Electronics, continues to expand its circuit protection portfolio with the introduction of its new series of RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances)-compliant PolySwitch® miniSMDC and SMD terminal devices for the automotive industry. The PolySwitch PPTC (Polymeric Positive Temperature Coefficient) devices help provide resettable overcurrent protection in applications where conserving board space is a critical design factor, such as PCB traces, motors, harnesses, chargers, hands free applications and multimedia input ports.

Raychem Circuit Protection maintains its position as the industry leader in resettable circuit protection with these devices, which are characterized by their small size and wide range of current and voltage options. The devices are available with voltage ratings from 6V to 60V and hold-current ratings from 50mA to 2.6A. The SMD devices are available in standard 1206 to 3425 sizes, with smaller sizes coming soon.

"These devices will allow us to continue supporting the automotive market for years to come," said Ashfaque Ameen, Product Marketing Manager. "Additionally, the devices' compliant status shows Raychem Circuit Protection's commitment to helping to protect both the environment and our customer's products."

These PolySwitch devices are compatible with industry standard installation procedures, and are available in tape and reel packaging for compatibility with high-volume manufacturing.
