May 10, 2006 - Part of Openwave Mobile Phone Suite, Openwave Mobile Browser, Mercury Edition expands upon off-net browsing capabilities with features such as scripting, AJAX compatibility, and Wide Screen and Map and Zoom display modes. It provides progressive rendering of content and optimized table layout. Browser supports HTML 4.01, WCSS 1.1, and WML as well as HTTP and WSP networking, including Proxyless HTTP. It also offers full SSL 3.0/TLS 1.0 support, WTLS Class II on WAP Stack.

Openwave Unveils New High Performance Mobile Browser


Openwave Mobile Browser, Mercury Edition, Sets New Industry Standard for Performance

LAS VEGAS, CTIA, April 5 / -- Openwave Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:OPWV), the leading provider of open software products and services for the communications industry, today announced the availability of its new high performance browser. The Openwave Mobile Browser, Mercury Edition, is a redesign of the core Openwave browser, designed to produce the industry's fastest performance. In head to head testing, Openwave found the Mercury Edition browser to be 25% faster at loading Web pages than the nearest competitor(1).

The Openwave Mobile Browser, Mercury Edition, enables both increased access to Web content on mobile devices and a faster experience. The Openwave Mobile Browser, Mercury Edition increases access to Web content by expanding upon Openwave's off-net browsing capabilities with new features such as scripting, AJAX compatibility and "Wide Screen" and "Map and Zoom" display modes.

"Consumers want to explore and experience the full Internet on their cell phones in a manner that replicates the speed and performance abilities of the PC," said Olivier Bartholot, head of the client business unit, Openwave. "With our newly re-designed browser, we are leaping ahead of the competition in terms of performance and functionality, helping to deliver a fast and easily accessible browser experience to consumers."

Key features of the new Openwave Mobile Browser, Mercury Edition, include:
-- High performance Graphics Engine
-- Progressive Rendering of Content
-- Optimized table layout
-- ECMAScript Mobile Profile (ESMP)
-- Multiple screen display modes, with map and zoom capability
-- Support for HTML 4.01, WCSS 1.1 and WML
-- Support for both HTTP and WSP Networking, including Proxyless HTTP
-- Full SSL 3.0/TLS 1.0 support, WTLS Class II on WAP Stack

The Openwave Mobile Browser, Mercury Edition, is part of the Openwave Mobile Phone Suite, which also includes Openwave Mobile Integrated Dynamic Application System (MIDAS), a user experience engine designed to enable the creation, customization and deployment of powerful new applications and interfaces for mass market mobile phones.

More than one billion handsets with Openwave software have been shipped. In addition, 51 device manufacturers have licensed the Openwave Mobile Browser.
