Thomas & Betts' Shrink-Kon® Portable Heat-Shrink Torch Provides Safety, Convenience and Precision with Temperature Range to 2,500 F

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - March 21, 2006 - With the introduction of the Shrink-Kon® Portable Heat-Shrink Torch, Thomas & Betts offers a versatile torch with a safety lock that prevents accidental ignition and a kill-switch button that allows instant shut-off. The Portable Heat-Shrink Torch also offers the convenience of using standard butane fuel and the precision of dual gas and air flame controls that generate temperatures as high as 2,500 F (1,371 C).

"With a temperature capacity of 2,500 F, an operator can shrink heavy-wall, heat-shrink materials with little effort," said Dan Vega, product manager for Thomas & Betts' Industrial Products Group. "In addition to heat-shrink applications, such as sleeving, terminals and labels, the Portable Heat-Shrink Torch also functions as a brazing and soldering tool. It's useful for any application requiring a controlled flame."

Additional features include a piezo ignition, which automatically lights the torch when the operator twists the start button to the "ON" position and pushes, and an ergonomic rubber grip. Constructed of durable brass and steel, it weighs only 9.88 ounces when filled with butane. The fuel tank capacity is 2.03 fluid ounces for an operating time of 220 minutes. A removable base enables hands-free operation.

For safety, the Shrink-Kon® Portable Heat-Shrink Torch ships without fuel.
