I-BEAM(TM) Delivers up to 50% Energy Savings for High Bay Lighting Applications

High Ambient Solution for Distribution Centers, Warehouses and Plant Facilities Unveiled

March 15, 2006 (Conyers, GA) - The hottest innovation in distribution center and plant facility lighting is the Cool Running(TM) Technology featured in the new I-BEAM(TM) System from Lithonia Lighting. I-BEAM fluorescent high bays deliver up to 50% energy savings over traditional HID fixtures and are UL Listed to operate in non- or partially conditioned environments with temperatures reaching 65°C (150°F).

"I-BEAM combines the energy efficiency and lighting quality of traditional fluorescent high bays with the high ambient solution that HID fixtures have always offered," said Tom Hunter, Vice President, Lithonia's Lighting's Commercial Fluorescent Group. "The ability for I-BEAM to compete in what has traditionally been an HID dominated market is a huge breakthrough."

I-BEAM fluorescent high bays deliver significant energy savings over 400-watt metal halide HID fixtures while using advanced optical control to maintain designed light levels for the life of the system. I-BEAM is the first T5HO fluorescent high bay that is UL/C-UL Listed to operate in environments up to 65ºC - more than twice as hot as the competition. This new system includes a three-year ballast warranty up to 65ºC and features an industry-leading, five-year ballast warranty up to 55ºC.

The innovative thermal design of I-BEAM, with its patent-pending Cool Running(TM) Technology, represents a systems approach that dramatically reduces the ballast operating temperature. Even when the surrounding air temperature approaches 55ºC, the I-BEAM ballast operating temperature can be as much as 40º cooler than the competition. Ballast operating temperatures in excess of 90ºC void manufacturer's warranty and increase maintenance costs by significantly shortening ballast life.

The I-BEAM system sets a new standard for reliability, as well as efficiency and lighting quality for conditioned and unconditioned environments. "It is the ideal fixture for distribution centers, warehouses, industrial and manufacturing facilities," states Hunter. Other advantages of the I-BEAM system over HID technology include instant-on/restrike, lower fixture profile, switching and sensor compatibility and improved color rendering with fluorescent lamps.

I-BEAM fluorescent high bays are available in four- and six-lamp configurations. Narrow, wide and uplight distribution options are offered. These fixtures come with multi-volt ballast as standard.
