Ball Lock Pins Offer Secure Holds with Quick Release Feature

Fixtureworks (Fraser, MI) has recently added a new lineup of Quick Release Ball Lock Pins, compatible Flanged Receptacles, End Caps and complementary Lanyard Assemblies, all manufactured by Fairlane Products, to its extensive product offerings of workholding and fixturing technologies. The Quick Release Ball Lock Pins are ideal for fastening and locating applications that require positive, secure holding yet feature the easy-to-use, "tool-less" removal convenience provided by ball-lock technology. They incorporate a high-strength rigid mechanical stop that prevents the pin from being removed unless the release button on the handle is depressed.

The Quick-Release Ball Lock Pins from Fixtureworks are available in over 600 distinct configurations, with shank diameters that encompass 3/16, 1/4, 5/16, 3/8 and 1/2" sizes with 1/2" to 6" grip lengths, and four styles of handles including L-, T-, Ring and Button options. Three shank materials are available-heat treated and plated 4130 alloy steel offering high shear strengths; 304 stainless steel providing corrosion resistance for work harsh environments; and heat treated 17-4 stainless steel hardened to provide high shear strength plus corrosion resistance.

Over the entire range of configuration options, the double-shear strength ranges from 2,200 to 36,800 lbs.

With all material, shape and size options, quality is maintained throughout the balance of standard construction features. All handles are black anodized aluminum; the actuator buttons are blue anodized aluminum and the remaining components, including the spring, retention balls, wear collar and any auxiliary rings are constructed from various stainless steel. Regardless of the shank material selected, the internal spindle of all pin models is made from 17-4 stainless and hardened to a minimum of Re 40, resulting in tensile and yield strengths of 190,000 lb/in² and 170,000 lb/in², respectively.

The flanged receptacles and end caps are manufactured from 303 stainless steel and are designed to provide an accurate mating hole for the ball-lock pins. They are available with four flange styles including diamond, oblong, rectangle and round and can be easily mounted to surfaces using rivets, screws or bolts. The receptacles are for use when the pin would not have any surfaces to properly engage its locking feature, or for use in blind hole applications. Fixtureworks also offers end caps for use when holes are oversize or out-or-round. A ball lock pin and end cap combination may be used instead of traditional clevis pin/cotter key.

Fixtureworks wire rope lanyards, used to safeguard lock pins by attaching them to an application, are made from 7 x 7 stainless steel wire and available uncovered or with a clear, black or green vinyl coating. Wire diameters of 3/64" and 1/16" along with four end configurations are offered among the standard assemblies including loop/rectangular tab, loop/loop, loop/tear drop tab, and loop/eyelet, while lengths range from 6" to 12" long. Custom units for specific application needs can be provided.

Fixtureworks is a leading, single-resource for a wide array of fixturing, workholding and accessory components including clamps, modular fixturing and set-up accessories from Imao®; Kipp® handles, levers, spring plungers, knobs and hand wheels, OK-Vise® fixturing clamps; Mitee-Bite® low-profile edge clamps; and rest pads, grippers, Swivots® and bumpers in addition to the Quick Release Ball Lock Pins from Fairlane Products®.
