Object Detection/Brake Lock System helps prevent collisions.

March 7, 2006 - Object Detection and Brake Interlock System provides vehicles with safety and protection while backing up. Once vehicle is shifted into reverse, PreView(TM) radar detects stationary and moving objects within cone of radar signal. Onboard display provides visible and audible indication to operator when object is identified by radar at distances up to 26 ft. System automatically applies 691 Brake Lock at predetermined distance to prevent collision with object.

MICO Introduces Object Detection and Brake Interlock System

NORTH MANKATO, Minn. - MICO, Inc. introduces the exclusive Object Detection and Brake Interlock System, providing an additional layer of safety and protection while backing up for a variety of vehicles, including construction vehicles, utility trucks, delivery vans and airport ground support vehicles.

The new system unites the MICO 691 Brake Lock and the PreView(TM) radar object detection system from Preco Electronics, Inc. to automatically intervene on the operator's behalf, rather than simply providing a warning.

The system is initiated once an equipped vehicle is shifted into reverse. The PreView(TM) radar detects both stationary and moving objects within the cone of the radar signal. For vehicles with a larger area outside of the operator's view, multiple radar sensors can be networked into one system.

An onboard display module provides both visible and audible indication to the operator when an object is identified by radar at distances up to 26 feet. A series of five lights illuminate on the display module as the alarm tone and tempo vary to alert the operator of the closing proximity to the object. The system automatically applies the 691 Brake Lock at a predetermined distance to prevent a collision with the object. For situations that require maneuvering a vehicle closer to the detected object, a manual release button will allow the operator to momentarily unlock the brakes.

Compatible with single, dual or anti-lock brake systems, the 691 Brake Lock is a self-contained system that does not interfere with the normal braking system or operation of the vehicle. Using an electrohydraulic pump and remote actuator, the 691 locks hydraulic pressure in the service brakes. A control module evaluates the brake locking pressure within the brake system and makes automatic adjustments when necessary.

Current owners of the 691 Brake Lock can have the PreView(TM) radar installed in order to receive the new, complete system. For specific applications, the system can be augmented to lock up particular group of wheels, rather than all four. The PreView(TM) radar system is programmable and can be set for different detection distances and patterns.

MICO, Incorporated designs, manufactures and sells hydraulic components and brake systems primarily for heavy duty, off-road commercial and industrial applications.
