Nanophase Announces Expansion of NanoTekŪ Alumina Polishing Products for Electronic and Optical Applications

ROMEOVILLE, Ill., Feb. 27 / -- Nanophase Technologies (NASDAQ:NANX), a technology leader in nanomaterials and advanced nanomaterial products, announced an extension to its line of alumina-based polishing products for electronics, displays, and optical polishing applications. The new alumina nanoparticles developed specifically for these applications are essentially spherical, leading to excellent surface finish and significantly reduced defect rates.

Additionally, the new NanoTekŪ alumina is approximately 80 nanometers, twice as large as the Company's current alumina product, to increase removal rates in polishing while lowering the cost of ownership and providing outstanding surface quality. NanoTekŪ alumina polishing products are available in aqueous dispersions that are highly stable in pH ranges from 4 to 10. Dispersions in other solvents are available for specialized applications. Dr. Dan Coy, Nanophase's Director of Engineering, noted, "This product is a significant addition to Nanophase's alumina-based polishing products, offering highly controlled particle size distribution, higher controlled polishing removal rates, and excellent surface finish."

Ian Roberts, Nanophase's vice president of U.S. and international sales, stated "Electronic and optical polishing applications are one of Nanophase's target markets. During 2005, revenues to these markets climbed over 600% compared to 2004, and we added several new customers. This new NanoTekŪ product was developed based on requirements in these markets and we anticipate solid market acceptance."
