WildUp Announces DirectUpdate 4.1

The new version of DirectUpdate, a popular dynamic DNS updater that has been awarded by Microsoft a "Designed for Windows XP" logo, now supports native x64 processors.

Chaponost, France. - February 16, 2006: WildUP, a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner and a developer of software for home and small business networking environments, today announces the release of version 4.1 of DirectUpdate.

This is a dynamic DNS updater designed to run as an NT service with a remote web administration. DirectUpdate integrates with many of the free and pay DNS services and enables you to update multiple DNS accounts automatically as soon as your IP changes. Additionally, the program can perform local actions on IP change. This includes FTP upload on new IP, email notification, application launch, and service restarting. The newest version of DirectUpdate is designed to support native x64 processors.

Why use DirectUpdate?
"If you have a dialup, xDSL, or a cable connection, you probably know that your computer is assigned a different IP address each time you go online," says William Levra-Juillet, CEO of WildUP and author of the program. "DirectUpdate allows you to change your dynamic IP address for a fixed and easy to remember address that looks like "xxx.com". This DNS-like address gives you a number of benefits. For example, you can reach your PC remotely. I know many IT consultants are using our DirectUpdate on client machines to provide remote assistance. Or, you can use DirectUpdate to host your own Web, FTP, email, or game server on your home or small business PC without spending money on an expensive fixed IP address."

DirectUpdate at a glance
Running in the background as an NT service, DirectUpdate periodically checks for your IP address and can perform different actions when a new one is detected. It can update a dynamic DNS account, send an email containing the new IP, upload a file with the new IP to an FTP server, and restart local services, including IIS/Apache or ISA server. Added to this is an ability to run an application or a script locally. DirectUpdate works behind NAT routers, firewalls, and proxy with default settings and uses different IP detection methods, including HTTP, SNMP, SMTP and UPnP, which are fully configurable. Currently DirectUpdate supports over 90 different dynamic DNS services. See their list at http://www.directupdate.net/services.html.
