RAID Storage Subsystems are optimized for data reliability.

March 22, 2006 - RAID storage subsystems in ASIC266 series are available with Firmware v3.47, which provides I/O handling and power management functions designed for audio/visual (A/V) applications. With Firmware, users may migrate configured Logical Drive from RAID5 to RAID6. It is designed for optimal I/O processing and system management and can handle failure of any 2 drives within array. A/V optimization mode maximizes drive response time for no-dropped-frames applications.

Infortrend Greatly Enhances Data Reliability, I/O Handling

New RAID Firmware Features RAID6 Support, AV Optimization Mode

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb. 21 /-- RAID storage expert Infortrend(R) today announced the availability of Firmware version 3.47, the latest firmware upgrade for the company's ASIC266 RAID storage subsystems. This new firmware offers greater reliability, advanced I/O handling, improved power management, and other functions designed specifically for audio/visual (A/V) applications.

Firmware v3.47 improves fault tolerance with the ability to handle the failure of any two drives within the array. For added flexibility, system managers can easily migrate a configured Logical Drive (LD) from RAID5 to RAID6. Special A/V functions include an A/V optimization mode that maximizes drive response time for no-dropped-frames applications.

"Our enhanced firmware gives IT managers a highly flexible storage solution to meet the needs of a wide variety of environments, including storage-intensive A/V applications," stated Tony Chu, president of Infortrend Corporation. "System administrators can now more confidently deploy inexpensive SATA hard drives without jeopardizing data integrity."

Firmware 3.47 Highlights

o Enhanced I/O processing
- LD and stripe size migration
- A/V optimization mode: maximizes drive response times for continuous reading without dropping frames
o Drive spin down saves power when the system is idle
o Variable Logical Drive/Logical Volume/partition/LUN configurations by DIMM size
o RAID6 support improves fault tolerance with the ability to handle two failed drives in an array

Infortrend Smart Technology

Derived from more than ten years experience in RAID storage design, Infortrend's innovative firmware enhances I/O processing, drive handling, and system management.

IOSmart

o Allows for the flexible configuration of logical drives, logical volumes and logical partitions
o Ensures instant RAID availability via background logical drive initialization
o Fibre loops load balancing is provided within the subsystem
o Embedded intelligent algorithms, such as Adaptive Write Policy and Guaranteed Latency I/O, improve sequential write performance for the fast and continuous flow of data

DrvSmart

o Media Scan function retrieves data from degraded or damaged hard drives and handles low quality drives in both the degraded mode and during the rebuild process
o Other features include disk cloning, drive roaming, SMART, transparent resetting of non-responsive hard drives, and RAID parity update tracking and recovery.

SysSmart

o Enclosure monitoring and firmware management capabilities minimize the chance of downtime caused by hardware failures
o Auto data protection mechanisms ensure data safety
o Component status, voltage and temperature readings, and system events are instantly revealed through the manager's graphical interface

Product Availability

Firmware v3.47 was first included on the EonStor A16F-G2422 FC-4G to SATA-II, single controller subsystem and will be available on the company's other ASIC266 products such as the ES A24U-G2421 and the recently announced ES A24F-R/G2224 RAID subsystems. These products are available through Infortrend's worldwide network of OEMs, distributors and storage integrators.
