Timing Belt Actuator Resists Build-Up of Dust and Other Airborne Contaminants
Uhing Company has modified one of its five model AZ timing belt drives to better resist build-up of dust, metal filings and other airborne particles. The load carriage in the model AZ-2000 timing belt drive now features plastic slide bearings instead of the metal rollers standard on other Uhing timing belt drives. The plastic bearings are less prone to accumulate dust and debris than metal parts. Developed specifically for use in the paperboard manufacturing industry, the AZ-2000 belt drive is also recommended for other applications subject to airborne contaminants including grinding, sanding, cutting and polishing. Less accumulation of contaminants permits longer periods of production without having to stop machinery in order to clean guides and rollers.
The AZ-2000 timing belt drive has a maximum travel speed of up to 1.5 meters/second depending on the weight of the payload which also affects required motor drive torque and acceleration capability. The load carriage measures 150 mm x 100 mm and has pre-drilled and tapped payload mounting holes. The drive will accept downward payload forces up to 90 Newtons and has a repeatability of +/- 0.2 mm over travel spans of up to 2,000 mm. The AZ-2000 timing belt is made of a heavy duty synthetic rubber with a built in steel cord strengthener and is housed in a lightweight yet sturdy corrosion resistant aluminum alloy extrusion. Maximum length for a one-piece drive is 5260 mm. Multiple sections may be joined to accommodate longer travel requirements.
Uhing AZ timing belt drives provide smooth linear motion in positioning and indexing applications. Five different AZ models are offered all of which are distributed in the USA by Amacoil, Inc. who also handles service and parts for Uhing rolling ring linear drives. The various AZ models meet a wide range of application requirements and design engineering needs with regard to linear speed, load and thrust capacity.
