Alloptic Introduces Redundant GEPON Optical Network Terminal
LIVERMORE, Calif., Jan. 24 /-- Alloptic, Inc., a global leader in the development and deployment of Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Networks (GEPONs), the most widely deployed next generation access network solution, announced the availability of the industry's first redundant Gigabit Ethernet Optical Network Terminal (ONT) the Xgen6000. The Xgen6000 will operate on an ITU standard passive optical network (PON), and will support redundant fiber feeds providing SONET reliability with PON economics.
"With GEPON's rapid acceptance and deployment around the world, network operators are leveraging the value of GEPON technology to provide subscribers converged network services," said Tom Warner, CTO for Alloptic. "As network operators plan out their networks, they don't want to support multiple architectures in the access network. That is, you want to avoid having a PON network for residential customers and a metro-Ethernet or SONET network for business customers or backhaul applications like wireless service. With our new Xgen product, we are able to provide the reliability of a ring architecture without the associated cost."
With the introduction of the Xgen6000, Alloptic extends its portfolio of Extended Gigabit Ethernet Node (Xgen) ONTs. This family of products is designed for high-density, high-reliability applications with the ability to be either curb or premises mounted.
