Thermal Printer provides barcode labels on demand.


January 27, 2006 - Built with metal enclosure and die-cast frame, Model S4M supports direct thermal printing at 6 ips with print width of 4.09 in. and label width of 4.50 in. It is equipped with 2-line LCD control panel, 4 MB Flash memory, and 203 dpi printhead. Connection options include 10/100 Ethernet, USB, 802.11 wireless, parallel, and RS-232 serial. Printer supports linear and 2-dimensional bar code symbologies including Code 39, Code 128, UPC/EAN plus extensions, RSS, Data Matrix, and PDF417.

Zebra Technologies Introduces Metal Printer with Budget Conscious Affordability


Vernon Hills, Ill., January 09, 2006-Providing the widest range of printer choices for business improvement applications, Zebra Technologies (Nasdaq:ZBRA), a global leader in on-demand printing solutions for business improvement, now makes it even easier for budget constrained customers to get the same incomparable quality, reliability, and performance Zebra printers are known for a price they can easily afford.

Built with a metal enclosure and die-cast frame for long-life and reliable performance, Zebra's new S4M thermal, on-demand, bar code label printer provides all the features needed to support many labeling applications including those used in manufacturing, distribution, and healthcare.

"Our customers who are starting to print on-demand or upgrading from desktop printers told us they wanted a metal printer with the same quality, functionality, and ease-of-use Zebra printers are known for, at a price to meet the restrictions of their tight IT budgets," said Mike Terzich, senior vice president of Zebra. "Zebra is filling that need by providing those customers with the outstanding value offered in the S4M."

Handy media management features also help the S4M minimize downtime and promote productivity. It holds 8-inch label rolls, resulting in fewer stoppages to change media. The convenient side-loading mechanism has guides and makes it easy for operators to change rolls because new media doesn't need to be threaded through the printer. The two-line LCD and keypad offers streamlined menu to change set up options.

The S4M also has features that save time and provide value for personnel responsible for managing their print environments. It can process label formats developed for both Zebra's ZPL and EPL printer command languages. The S4M is also available with the ZebraLink Alternate Programming Language (APL), so it can operate in competitive printing environments. The printer offers more ways to connect - from 10/100 Ethernet, USB, 802.11b wireless, parallel and RS-232 serial - for simple system interfaces. The S4M is also compatible with the ZebraNet Print Server II, which enables many advanced configuration, monitoring and management features.

Standard features include: support for multiple linear and two-dimensional bar code symbologies including Code 39, Code 128, U.P.C./EAN plus extensions, RSS, Data Matrix and PDF417; native Unicode support for international character printing; LCD control panel, 4MB Flash memory and a 203 dpi (8 dots/mm) printhead. The S4M supports direct thermal printing, six inches per second (152mm/sec) print speed, with a print width of 4.09 inches (104mm) and label width of 4.50 inch (114mm). The S4M measures 10.7 (272mm)
by 11.6 (295mm) by 18.8 (477mm) inches. Options include a thermal transfer ribbon handling system, a 300 dpi (12 dots/mm) printhead, up to 64MB Flash memory, label peeler, real-time clock and keyboard display unit.
