ifold Information Technology on Folding

Baum Folders Provide Automation, Information, and Innovation

Baum introduces the future of folding today with true technological advancements that integrate automation, information and enhanced, superior mechanical innovation. The need for increased productivity to be competitive and profitable in bindery and finishing goes beyond just automating equipment. Baum recognizes the need to train and assist operators with the knowledge needed to provide consistent quality and increase productivity. Baum also understands that the folding needs of today require a choice of manual setup with a tutorial interface, and automated setup with a tutorial interface. These advancements are the Baum "ifold" and the Baum "AutoSet".

One of the keys to successful use of manual or automated setup folding machines is being able to know how to compensate for the unplanned variations that occur before and during the folding process. The constant changes in printing and imaging can present different challenges to the folding process. Folding jobs which are saved in memory on an automated folder from a previous run, that are expected to be the same for the next run, can change. A change in paper, registration from the printing press, changing from offset to digital imaging or the difference caused during the cutting and trimming process after printing are just a few of the variables that will cause those unplanned variations. Another significant change is using a different operator.

"ifold" provides the ability to access information stored with the job and the capability to consult immediately an integrated tutorial. The Baum "AutoSet" provides the tutorial and memory storage of "ifold" and then automates the folder setup. Both the ifold and the AutoSet enhance the capabilities of the operator by providing "See How" videos of major subjects related to folding. All of this information and setup is utilized through a compact touch-screen computer mounted directly to the Baum folder.

The ifold is available only on the new Baum 15I Pile feed, Baum 18I Pile Feed, Baum 20I Pile and Continuous feed folders and the large format Baum 26 and 30 Continuous feed folders.

The Baum AutoSet is available on the Baum 20I Pile and Continuous feed folders.
The Baum ifold and AutoSet are not retrofittable to previous model Baum 15, 18, 20, 26, and 30 folders.
