Level Gauges offer non-contact measurement.

November 10, 2005 - Providing measurement during processing and storage of liquids, OPTISOUND 3010C, 3020C, and 3030C offer ±.39 in. accuracy, even with fluctuating liquid levels, temperatures, and vapors. Short ultrasonic pulses ranging from 35-70 kHz are emitted by transducer to liquid surface. Using microcomputer technology and processing software, gauges calculate exact distance to surface. Units are suited for water and wastewater measurement in basins, sumps, and sludge containers.

KROHNE Introduces its OPTISOUND Ultrasonic Level Gauges

Non-contact Flow Measurement Principle Eliminates Maintenance

KROHNE, Inc. a global technology leader in the development, manufacture and distribution of accurate, reliable and cost effective level and flow measurement products for the process industries, introduces its OPTISOUND 3010C, 3020C and 3030C ultrasonic level gauges for level measurement during the processing and storage of liquids. The OPTISOUND ultrasonic sensors are also well-suited for level measurement of water and wastewater in applications including open basins, sumps and sludge containers.

The non-contact measuring principle of KROHNE's OPTISOUND sensors eliminates product maintenance and provides ease of service. As OPTISOUND sensors measure the surface of the liquid, the degree of pollution in the water or accumulation of the mud in the basin, for instance, are irrelevant to accuracy of the measurement. The high performance of the OPTISOUND sensors ensure accurate and reliable measurement +/-.39" (+/- 10mm) even with fluctuating liquid levels, temperature and vapors.

Short ultrasonic pulses ranging from 35 kHz to 70 kHz are emitted by the transducer to the liquid surface, where they are reflected and received by the transducer. These pulses travel at the speed of sound, but the time from the emission to the reception of the signals depends on the level in the particular vessel. Using advanced microcomputer technology and processing software, the OPTISOUND level gauges calculate the exact distance to the surface. An integrated temperature sensor detects the temperature in the vessel and compensates the influence of temperature on the signal running time.

Also included in KROHNE's OPTISOUND family of ultrasonic level gauges are the OPTISOUND 3030C, 3040C and 3050C, which are ideal for level measurement during processing and storage of solids in silos, hoppers, conveyer belts and stone crushers.
