Graphite Release Coating handles temperatures to 3,000°C.
November 3, 2005 -
Water-based Grade AE, applied to metal, wood, concrete, plastic, glass, or ceramic surface, dries into smooth, non-porous graphite layer. Electrically and thermally conductive paint can be used as dry lubricant or as anti-stick agent in oxidizing environments to 500°C and in reducing or inert atmospheres to 3,000°C. Able to be removed by cold water, non-toxic product will not crack, run, or melt at any temperature and does not entrap dirt.

Graphite Release Coating is Useful to 3000°C
Dylon Industries Inc. has recently developed Grade AE, an unusual water-based "paint" that produces high density coatings of almost pure graphite. Grade AE can be applied to any metal, wood, concrete, plastic, glass, or ceramic surface. It dries quickly into an extremely smooth, non-porous graphite layer with very low friction and high electrical and thermal conductivity. Most molten metals and ceramics will not stick to its surface.
Grade AE can be used as a dry lubricant, or as an anti-stick agent, in oxidizing environments to 500°C; and in reducing or inert atmospheres to 3000°C. It will net crack, run, or melt at any temperature. Grade AE is non-toxic, will not entrap dirt like grease or oil, and may be removed by cold water when no longer needed.
Developed as a high temperature mold release coating, Grade AE has been found extremely useful as a powder metal sintering tray coating, as a gasket and flange release agent, as a sliding interface between parts to accommodate thermal expansion, and as a lubricant for chains and cables in steel mill cool-down beds. Since molten metals, ceramics, and slag will not stick to Grade AE, it is an excellent anti-weld and splatter stop-off coating.
