New SCATEC Laser Copy Counters for Fine Sheet Counting

Southington, CT -- October 10, 2005.... Baumer Electric has expanded the SCATEC sensor family to include two new highly precise, programmable sensors for fine sheet counting. Although specifically designed for non-contact counting of newspapers, magazines and other printed media, SCATEC sensors can also be used in industrial applications involving lap or shingle stream counting.

Offering higher count rates and the capacity to detect finer sheets, the SCATEC-10 and SCATEC-15 counters include a retro-reflective device that accurately counts separated sheets, an ideal feature for inconsistent feed streams and cracked or wrinkled pages. Offering a keypad, LCD display, and an additional connector, these sensors can be connected to a computer for remote control and programming. Fast and easy to mount, SCATEC-10 and -15 sensors deliver perfectly optimized, reliable copy counts even with multi-color and high gloss media. ScaDiag software allows users to program optimized performance parameters. Both sensors feature die cast zinc housings that are IP 54 protection and measure 170 x 70 x 30 mm.

The SCATEC-10 counter accurately detects sheets down to 0.1 mm at a rate up to 1.5 million copies per hour. The sensor's measuring range is 0 to 90 mm with an object speed of 0 to 2 m/s with edge thicknesses of 0.2 mm or 0 to 1 m/s with edge thicknesses to 0.1 mm. A fast error diagnostic tool available on the ScaDiag diagnostic software saves time effort and money over traditional troubleshooting methods. And the sensor's dead-time function eliminates false counts related to multiple edges.

The SCATEC-15 accurately detects sheets down to 0.15 mm at a rate of 1.5 million copies per hour. The sensor's measuring range is 0 to 120 mm with an object speed of 0 to 1 m/s for the thinnest edges. The SCATEC-15 counter can be automatically controlled via CAN-interface when changing production conditions mandate frequently updated settings. CAN-mode also allows synchronization of machine functions such as address printing.

The SCATEC-10 and -15 sensors join the SCATEC-J that is designed for less demanding counting such as magazines and full newspapers, and the higher sensitivity SCATEC-2, designed for use in insertion and mailrooms.
