Thermal Imaging Cameras inspect industrial furnaces.

October 12, 2005 - ThermaCAM P25F and P50F are designed for monitoring industrial furnaces, heaters, and boilers to ensure safe and efficient operation. Along with uncooled microbolometer technology that enables use of products in less than 1 min, IR cameras have burst recording feature that records and archives series of images while in operation. Both models provide accurate temperature readings across entire furnace/boiler/heater surface during IR scan in real-time.

FLIR Systems Announces New Industrial Furnace Camera Technology to be Introduced at Annual Infrared Conference

New Infrared Imaging Technology "Sees through Flames" - a tremendous boon to the Petrochemical and Utility Industries

Boston, MA (October 4, 2005) - FLIR Systems, Inc., the global leader in infrared (IR) cameras, is pleased to announce the introduction of a new line of thermal imaging cameras for industrial furnace applications - the ThermaCAM P25F and P50F. These cameras are ideal for monitoring all types of industrial furnaces, heaters and boilers - particularly for the petrochemical and utility industries - to ensure safe and efficient operation. A formal announcement and brief presentation will be given at InfraMation 2005 - the largest annual infrared applications conference - on October 17-21, 2005 in Las Vegas.

These new IR cameras feature the latest in uncooled microbolometer technology - meaning that the camera is ready to use in less than one minute, without the warm up time of past technology, a very beneficial feature in "high-heat" industrial environments. To further protect predictive maintenance workers, the camera also features "burst recording" used to quickly record and archive a series of images of the furnace/boiler/heater while in operation, and comes with a detachable heat shield that protects both camera and operator.

These new offerings are truly revolutionary since they provide accurate temperature readings across the entire furnace/boiler/heater surface during the IR scan in real-time - a great benefit as they enable faster, more comprehensive and therefore safer inspections. Antiquated contact-based thermocouple measurements on the other hand, only give temperature readings for the point(s) at which they are in contact with equipment, and as such can miss potential issues leading to unscheduled shutdowns or even catastrophic failure.

"Coking, scaling and slag build-up are well known problems in the petrochemical and utility industries, and the P25F and P50F display clear and precise thermal images and temperature measurements providing the tools, readings and trend data to help companies spot potential problems faster and easier than ever before," explained John Keane, Director, US/Mexico Sales, FLIR Systems, Inc.

The annual InfraMation conference is beneficial to beginners in the infrared camera field as well as professional thermographers. Newcomers will learn how to select the right camera for their needs while experts can renew and maintain their certification by attending InfraMation clinics. Presentations and clinics for the 2005 conference cover diverse fields from plant operations - with clinics in building science, mechanical, roofing and electrical operations - to scientific and medical infrared applications including R&D, medical/health care and equine/veterinary thermography.

"By attending InfraMation, thermographers not only learn how to better operate infrared cameras, but also optimally interpret the results, enabling them to more easily identify and diagnose the real-world issues that affect and enhance both their jobs and the companies they work for," explained Dr. Robert Madding, PhD, Director, Infrared Training Center. Petrochemical industry specialists can see for themselves how to properly operate the GasFindIR camera knowing they are getting accurate results.

About ITC - the Infrared Training Center

The Infrared Training Center (ITC) has invested in the people, resources and technology to create a world class training program and facility. The ITC was originally an infrared camera operator training course, but has evolved over the past 25 years into an infrared predictive maintenance certification program that teaches operator training as well as infrared theory and applications. Today ITC is the global leader in IR Thermography Training.
