Optical Fiber Cards expand Ethernet switch capability.


September 20, 2005 - When used with SVME/DMV-680 SwitchBlade Gigabit Ethernet switch, RazorBlade III-SX and IV-LX XMC Cards deliver 24 ports of wire-speed GbE performance over copper and optical fiber in single VME slot. System can be used to design intra-platform networks that link transformational IP-based networks on-board air, land, and sea vehicles for defense and aerospace applications. It may be remotely configured, monitored, and upgraded through secure set of interfaces.

RazorBlade III-SX and IV-LX Optical Fiber XMC Cards expand the industry leading VME-680 SwitchBlade to deliver 24-Ports of Copper/Optical Gigabit Ethernet in a single VME slot

Leesburg, VA, September 6, 2005 - Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing has introduced two new optical fiber XMC modules, the RazorBlade III-SX and RazorBlade IV-LX, that, when used with the SVME/DMV-680 SwitchBlade Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) switch, deliver 24-ports of wire-speed GbE performance over copper and optical fiber to comprise the industry's highest density, single slot VME switched solution. This new combination provides a powerful building block that can be used to design Intra-Platform Networks (IPN) that link today's transformational IP-based networks on-board air, land and sea vehicles for defense and aerospace applications.

Because optical fibers are insensitive to Electro-Magnetism Interference and Radio-Frequency Interference (EMIRFI) they are highly suitable for many military and communications applications where high signal quality, secure data transmission, and survivability are essential. With the new XMC-compliant RazorBlade SX (1000BaseSX) and LX (1000BaseLX) modules, system integrators can quickly and easily architect hybrid copper and optical fiber networks.

The SVME/DMV-680 SwitchBlade
Curtiss-Wright's 12/20/24-port SVME/DMV-680 SwitchBlade solution is the world's first VME form-factor, conduction-cooled, wire-speed, non-blocking, full duplex Gigabit Ethernet switch in a single VME slot. It was designed for use in rugged military/aerospace intra-platform networks (IP-based networks in air, land, and sea vehicles). The VME-680 SwitchBlade allows systems integrators to make high performance chassis-to-chassis, board-to-board, or even CPU-to-CPU connections over Gigabit Ethernet. The VME-680 SwitchBlade basecard is available in either 12 or 20 Gigabit Ethernet port configurations. With RazorBlade XMCs, the VME-680 SwitchBlade can be expanded to a full 24 ports. Systems requiring larger port counts can simply cascade 2 or more SwitchBlades.

Software Support
The management and control software integrated in the combined RazorBlade and VME-680 SwitchBlade solution, including the full suite of Layer 2/3 software protocols required for intelligent switching and routing of IP packets, provides rich functionality that systems integrators can leverage as their application's networking requirements grow. Systems may be remotely configured, monitored and upgraded through a secure set of interfaces, dramatically reducing system debug and maintenance costs.
