Workgroup Printers offer IPDS and coax/twinax features.
September 12, 2005 -
Infoprint® 1532, 1552, 1572, and 1585 models employ card for IPDS and SCS/TNe feature, which enables printing of host- or client-based output on network-attached laser printer. Products handle bar codes, forms, publications, and graphics and can direct AFP/IPDS or SCS output across LAN using TCP/IP protocol. Coax/Twinax Card for SCS is 32-bit PCI-based option that allows printers to attach to IBM servers using coax or twinax connection. Both cards offer auto-emulation sensing.

Overview
IBM is adding IPDS and Coax/Twinax features for its Infoprint® 1532, 1552, 1572, and 1585 printers.
With the Card for IPDS and SCS/TNe feature, you can print either host-based or client-based output on your network-attached laser printer. You can also use your printer both for network printing and for IBM iSeries or mainframe jobs. Print bar codes, forms, publications, and graphics closer to your end users, giving you the associated cost and time savings from true distributed printing. Direct your IBM AFP/IPDS or SCS output across the LAN using the TCP/IP protocol.
Locate your printer wherever you need it to maximize its productivity. When connected to a network, an auto-emulation sensing printer will automatically switch to the proper document language, whether it is SCS, IPDS, PostScript, or PCL.
Benefits for this feature include:
Emulation of common IBM IPDS and SCS printers such as 4028 or 3812
AFP/IPDS printing over the LAN using TCP/IP with a standard Ethernet network port
TN3270E to TN5250E SCS (LU1) printing over the LAN using TCP/IP with Telnet with a standard Ethernet network port
The Coax/Twinax Card for SCS is a 32-bit PCI-based option that is installed in a slot in the printer. This feature provides the SNA Character String (SCS) data stream and either a coaxial or twinaxial connection. For the coax attachment, DSC/DSE data streams are also supported. With this option installed, the printer will emulate an IBM host-workstation printer and print from applications running on an IBM iSeries or IBM mainframe.
The Coax/Twinax Card for SCS automatically detects the type of cable, either coax or twinax, that is being used to connect the printer to its IBM host. If the printer is connected to a network, auto-emulation sensing will automatically switch the printer to the right language for each incoming document, whether it's with IPDS, PostScript, or PCL 6 emulation.
Benefits for this feature include:
Supports emulations of common IBM printers
Supports FFT/DCA and SCS data streams for twinax attachments
Supports SCS and DSC/DSE data streams for coax attachments
