Label Printer Applicator with Dual Application Tamp

ID Technology, Fort Worth, TX, has designed a label printer applicator system to apply labels in one of three ways. Labels can be applied to product 1 or product 2 or to both products. The system can be integrated into a fully automatic production line or used as a semi-automatic tabletop unit.

A label is dispensed and held on a vacuum pad waiting for a photocell trigger to begin the application process. The tamp module extends, applies the label and returns to the home position to retrieve another label. After the second label is dispensed onto the pad, the tamp module moves laterally a pre-specified distance, the tamp cylinder is extended again and a label is applied to the second product. The tamp cylinder retracts and the tamp module returns to the home position.

The customer’s PLC sends specific application instructions to a selector box. The selector box determines if the label is to be applied to each product singularly or to both products each time the photocell is triggered.
