Polyzen Announces Medical Industry First - Narrow Width Polyurethane Thin Wall Layflat tubing

APEX, NC (June 13, 2005) - Polyzen, Inc. has introduced what is believed to be industry's first narrow width polyurethane layflat tubing (4" to 12" wide rolls, 1 to 20 mils, tubular sleeve). The product line is intended for use as barrier sheath for devices, medical bags or pouches. According to company sources, the new offering is an extension of the firm's current layflat tubing lines, with the difference being Polyzen is the first medical products OEM supplier to make an investment for smaller dies for the production of narrow width layflat tubing.

The firm is an acknowledged leader in polyurethane technology and film welding. Polyurethane (PU) layflat tubing until this time was available only in widths of 12" or wider. The use of polyurethanes or polyolefins enable medical products manufacturers to offer, store and sell products without the widely known drawbacks of PVC.

Benefits of the new narrow width polyurethane or olefin layflat tubing line include:

• cost savings - medical product OEMs only need to seal the top and bottom of each bag or pouch

• flexibility - applications can include hot and cold packs, pouches for storage of fluids, saline and biofluid packs, small bags for smaller products and blood bags, among others

• colorability for increased aesthetic appeal

• availability - quick deliveries

• strength - the two edge seals are extremely strong

• convenience - sold in roll form with both edges already sealed

Polyzen is now in its 14th year as one of the medical products industry's leading manufacturers of critical and specialty disposable components and devices. It was founded by company President Tilak M. Shah, who is regarded worldwide as the pre-eminent expert on thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers. These are breakthrough products that are being used more and more widely in medical products as an alternative to PVC and latex (the latter which are arguably less suitable for contact with patients and medical personnel). In addition, Mr. Shah and his company have earned numerous patents for products and techniques in the medical products industry.
