Flexible Rotary Blast Machine

August 5, 2005 - Saratoga Springs, NY - Guyson Corporation has introduced a single spindle blast system that offers considerable flexibility for automated surface treatment in the work cell. The compact Model RSSA-6 can be quickly adjusted to process a moderate volume of many different components.

The automatic blast machine's rotary spindle may be fitted with a turntable up to 24 inches in diameter or with a quick-change fixture designed to hold each type of component. As the work piece rotates at controlled and adjustable speed, it is exposed to the blast of media from multiple nozzles for the set duration of the blasting cycle. A timed airwash blow-off cycle follows the impact treatment process.

Up to four suction-blast guns or two pressure-blast nozzles are mounted on telescoping multi-adjustable brackets in the blast chamber of the RSSA-6. The distance of each nozzle from the component and the angles of media impingement on component surfaces, thus, can easily be altered to accommodate different shapes and sizes of parts. While thorough coverage of many components can be assured with an array of guns in fixed position, nozzle motion can get the work done with fewer guns and with a lower compressed air requirement.

The flexibility of the Model RSSA-6 is enhanced by the addition of programmable linear nozzle motion that is synchronized with the rotation of the component. The stroke, speed and dwell of the ball screw/ball nut traverse is adjustable, so automatic process routines can be established for a variety of different components that may be processed occasionally.

Alternatively, nozzle motion and other blasting parameters for frequently-processed parts can be stored and recalled by the system's prgrammable logic controller (PLC), so that set-up time can be reduced or eliminated.

Overall dimensions of the Model RSSA-6 cabinet are 52" W x 32" D (1300 mm x 812 mm). The blast machine has a full depth hinged access door on one side and the individual customer's choice of front loading doors, either manual or automatic. Any type of dry blast media can be used in the system, making it suitable for diverse applications, including shot peening, deburring, descaling, blast cleaning, finishing, coating removal and technical surface preparation.

Prospective users of the RSSA-6 automated system are encouraged to submit sample components for free laboratory testing and application engineering evaluation at the machine builder's factory in northeastern New York State.
