NKK Switches Expands Legend Options With New Laser Etching

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (August 8, 2005) – NKK Switches, the leading supplier, designer and manufacturer of electromechanical switches, now offers laser etching/engraving in its legend design packets. NKK’s full offering of legend options meets the needs of engineers faced with incorporating human interface into the design of state-of-the art products.

Laser etching/engraving uses a laser to place permanent markings on various objects. Unlike screen printing and pad printing, which NKK also offers, laser etching/engraving has unlimited applications. In addition, laser etching/engraving provides high-quality at a low cost in comparison to other methods of marking.

For each family of switches, including all illuminated and non-illuminated series, NKK has a specific “legend packet” to guide engineers in making the most suitable choice for their design. Whether selecting straightforward commands such as “on” or “off,” or more detailed symbols to determine function, each legend packet simplifies design specification.

The legend packets take engineers step-by-step through the creation and specification process. Beginning with cap styles, font styles, font sizes, characters and text, the guide moves the engineer effortlessly through to the final choices of color, printing methods and legend orientation.

NKK provides design flexibility with many styles of caps for illuminated switches. The wide array of cap designs allows engineers to choose the legend on the exterior of a cap, or even to specify a three-piece cap assembly featuring the legend marked on the center filter. With such variety, engineers’ options are nearly limitless.

Design engineers can request the legend packets directly from NKK or download them from www.nkkswitches.com.

A leading designer and producer of electromechanical switches, NKK Switches offers one of the industry’s most extensive selections of illuminated, process sealed, miniature, specialty and surface mount switches. The company manufactures more than four million toggle, rocker, pushbutton, slide, rotary and DIP rotary, keypad and keylock switches. NKK Switches maintains a complete network of qualified representatives and distributors through the United States, Canada, Central and South America, Europe and Asia.

NKK Switches is keenly aware of the myriad of issues that are covered under the RoHS directive. With more than 50 years of experience in the switch industry and as an environmentally-conscious company, NKK is committed to not only providing high quality products and services, but also providing environmentally safe products for its valued customers. NKK continues to lead the industry in responding to the needs of the marketplace with innovation, high reliability and a commitment to excellence.
