New 46,000-Pound Capacity Vantraax® Trailer Suspension System Adds Strength and Shaves Weight

CANTON, Ohio —Hendrickson expands its popular VANTRAAX® trailer suspension system family with a superb model for haulers running heavy-duty, over-the-road box and refrigerated vans.
Introducing a tapered-beam 46,000-pound capacity configuration (HKANT 46K) ideal for the Canadian market, Hendrickson increases frame strength while trimming 125 pounds from the wide-beam 46,000-pound capacity system (HKAT 46K).

The new VANTRAAX model exemplifies Hendrickson's Advanced Axle/Beam Technology (AXT™), which teams tapered-beam and large-diameter axle (LDA™) technologies. Plans call for AXT to be introduced throughout the INTRAAX® and VANTRAAX families of integrated trailer suspension systems.

LDA increases the diameter of today's traditional five-inch axle by about three-quarters of an inch, which reduces weight while improving component and system strength.

It delivers a 15 percent increase in bending and torsional stiffness compared to the five-inch axle tube, while reducing tube deflection under loads to keep the axle straighter to help enhance fuel efficiency and tire wear.

Hendrickson's cutting-edge production capabilities, such as friction-welded spindles and induction hardening, produce the straightest and most consistent trailer axle-spindle assemblies in the industry.

The new HKANT 46K comes standard with high-strength, low-alloy main rails and K braces for added durability and strength. The configuration provides a 20 percent stronger main rail and 16 percent more buckling resistance compared to the current 46,000-pound capacity system (HKAT 46K).

In addition, the robust main rails increase resistance to single-wheel impacts. For identification of HKANT 46K, the number "80" and a part number are "hard stamped" into the main rails and K braces.

Modification to the shock attachment doubles its strength, while the model retains the same shocks and air springs as the current HKAT 46K. With the narrow pivot tapered-beam, the new configuration uses the high-performance TRI-FUNCTIONAL® III bushing to deliver the same smooth ride.

Road proven over millions of miles, patented TRI-FUNCTIONAL® III bushings feature phosphate coated inner metal for corrosion protection and a unique rubber compound for outstanding durability and ride.

Concurrently, in an enhancement pertaining to all Hendrickson sliding suspension systems, HKANT 46K models feature a redesigned D-shaped locking pin and accompanying D-shaped holes in the main rail.

HKAT 46K offers the outstanding and unique features common to all VANTRAAX systems, along with the availability of a wide array of options including QUIK-DRAW®, fully-pneumatic pin-pull mechanism; TIREMAAX®, automatic tire inflation system, and a complete selection of long-life wheel-end and brake choices.
