Vishay Announces UL Smoke Detector Certification for TSAL6100 IR Emitter
UL-Certified IR Emitter Provides Typical Radiant Intensity of 130 mW/sr at 100 mA; More Than Double That of Standard Emitters
MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA - July 27, 2005 - Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today announced that its TSAL series of infrared (IR) emitters now includes the TSAL6100X01, an emitter certified under the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) standard for Smoke Detectors for Fire-Protective Signaling Systems, or UL 268.
Infrared -based smoke detectors in the United States require the use of UL-certified emitters, and the TSAL6100X01 is an excellent solution for such devices or any other application relying on IR emitters that must meet the UL 268 standard.
Like other devices in Vishay's TSAL series of IR emitters, the TSAL6100X01 offers a low forward voltage of 1.35 V at 100 mA and is suitable for high pulse-current operation. The UL-certified emitter features a high radiant intensity of 130 mW/sr at 100 mA and a narrow angle of half-intensity of 10 . Because TSAL devices use GaAIAs on GaAs technology, emitters in the series produce more than 100% radiant power when compared to standard emitters at similar wavelengths.
For applications such as remote controls, which do not require this UL certification, the device is available under the same part number: TSAL6100. IR emitters in the TSAL series are lead (Pb)-free and compatible with lead-free processing in accordance with WEEE (2002/96/EC) and RoHS (2002/95/EC).
Samples and production quantities of the TSAL6100X01 UL 268-certified IR emitter are available now with lead times of six weeks.
