MIG Gun Liners facilitate changeover.

July 27, 2005 - Jump Liners connect with standard liners at base of Q™-gun's rotatable neck and run through most common wear point up to contact tip. Q-Gun neck separates from handle without tools for liner changeover. When Jump Liner becomes worn or contaminated, operator detaches Q-Gun’s neck from handle, replaces only Jump Liner, and reattaches neck, eliminating need to replace entire 15 ft of standard liner.

Bernard® Q™-Gun and Jump Liners Reduce Downtime and Labor Costs

-Speed liner changeover

-Reduce parts count and cost

-Increase productivity

BEECHER, Ill. July 20, 2005-To reduce downtime and labor costs associated with MIG gun liner changeover, Bernard® offers its patented Jump Liners. These Jump Liners couple with Bernard’s rotatable Q™-Gun necks, which separate from the handle without tools to provide easy access for quick liner changeover.

Liners guide welding wire through a MIG gun to the arc and they most commonly wear and collect debris at a friction point created by the bend in a MIG gun’s neck. Worn and/or contaminated liners should be replaced to prevent poor wire feed, improve weld quality and reduce downtime associated with wire burn-backs.

Bernard Jump Liners connect with standard liners at the base of a Q-gun’s rotatable neck and run through the most common wear point up to the contact tip. When a Jump Liner becomes worn or contaminated, operators simply have to detach the Q-Gun’s neck from the handle, replace only the Jump Liner and reattach the neck. Competitor’s guns require operators to disconnect guns from the feeder and remove 15- to 20- feet of liner from the cable assembly in order to replace only a small section of a worn or contaminated liner.

According to Bill Giese, product manager at Bernard, “The real advantage of using Jump Liners in the Q-Guns is that you don’t have to replace or (trim) the entire gun liner when switching to a neck of different length. The jump liner can remain with the body tube and the main liner with the gun.”

That quick changeover not only creates cost savings by reducing downtime and increasing productivity, but it also lowers overall parts count and costs. Compared to an entire liner, Bernard’s Jump Liners cost less and can be stored more easily. Giese adds, “For companies who struggle with maintaining inventory or with consumable costs, the Jump Liners with a Q-Gun are viable alternatives. With these products, you are only buying and storing what you need—about 12-inches of liner compared to 15 feet or more. It just costs less.”
