Turn-Off Switch minimizes fire risks in lighting fixtures.

Press Release Summary:

Stand-alone Safeguard Ignitor Turn-Off Switch minimizes ballast failures and component damage from insulation failure and overheating by automatically disconnecting lamp ignitor if light source has failed, is at end-of-life, or is missing. Unit stops constant electrical cycling or restriking attempts until faulty or missing lamp can be replaced. Switch is suited for 39-1,000 W Pulse-Start Metal Halide and 35-400 W High-Pressure Sodium lighting systems.

'Product of the Year' S1 Ignitor Turn-Off Switch from Thomas Research Products Stops Ballast Failures, Component Damage, Lessens Fire Risks in PSMH and HPS Fixtures

Elmhurst, Illinois, 2005 - Thomas Research Products, LLC, a supplier of advanced electronic control and switching devices for H.I.D., fluorescent and incandescent commercial light fixtures, a member company of Varon Lighting, Inc., has introduced the state-of-the-art SI Safeguard Ignitor Turn-Off Switch. SI has won the "Product Of The Year" award from Electrical Construction and Maintenance (EC&M) Magazine.

New Product: SI Safeguard Ignitor Turn-Off Switch

Design: Thomas Research In-House Product Development and Engineering Team.

Manufacturer: Thomas Research Products, LLC, a division of Varon Lighting, Inc.

Product Applications: The SI Safeguard Ignitor Turn-Off Switch is designed to offer professional lighting specifiers, installers and end users new-found levels of safety and operating economy when using Pulse-Start Metal Halide and High-Pressure Sodium lighting systems in all indoor and outdoor, high-bay and low-bay commercial lighting installations. SI is particularly useful in avoiding costly problems in 24/7 applications such as big-box retail, parking garages, transportation and government facilities, and warehousing applications.

Product Description: Patent-pending SI Safeguard Ignitor Turn-Off Switch is a compact, stand-alone electronic module, about the size and shape of a C-cell battery, that installs inside any PSMH or HPS lighting fixture. SI sharply reduces ballast failures from insulation failure and overheating, and common component damage, by automatically disconnecting the lamp ignitor if a PSMH or HPS light source has failed, is at end-of-life or is missing.

The SI Safeguard Ignitor Turn-Off Switch stops the constant electrical cycling or restriking attempts until the faulty or missing lamp can be replaced. This reduces the time maintenance personnel need to spend locating the unit requiring repair, identifying the faulty component in the fixture, and the potential smoke and fire dangers associated with Pulse-Start Metal Halide or High-Pressure Sodium lamp rupture or constant restriking. Electrical ground faults are prevented.

Construction Features: SI Safeguard Ignitor Turn-Off Switch is a compact, space-saving unit, designed for 120-, 277- and 480-volt inputs, for use with CWA, HX, Reactor and magnetically regulated ("Mag Reg") ballasts.

SI is compatible across the broad range of all 39- to 1000-watt PSMH, and all 35-to 400-watt HPS, lamps. It is UL recognized and patent pending.
