Hitachi Power Tools Introduces Two New World-Class Cordless Hammer Drills as Part of the DMR Series

NORCROSS, GA., June 27, 2005 - Hitachi Power Tools today announced two world-class cordless hammer drill additions to the DMR series. The Hitachi DV18DMR and Hitachi DV14DMR incorporate the most advanced features available for those who demand a tool engineered to deliver outstanding drilling, driving and hammering performance to power through wood, plastic, metal, concrete and stone materials with ease.

The DV18DMR is Hitachi's new 18-Volt cordless hammer drill that delivers 550 in/lbs of torque (class leading). It comes with two high-capacity 3.0Ah NiMH batteries that offer 50% longer run time between charges. The DV14DMR is the 14-Volt cordless hammer drill that delivers 460 in/lbs of torque (class leading) and comes with two high-capacity 2.0Ah NiCD batteries. Both offer 2-speed transmissions for even more control and feature no-load RPMs of 0-400/1,800 (0-400, 1750-DV14DMR) and aggressive impact rates of 0-4,800/21,600 BPM (0-4,800/21,000-DV14DMR). They are perhaps the most flexible cordless drills available on the market as they can be set in drill mode to tackle drilling applications, driving mode for fastening applications or hammer mode to hammer drill into concrete and stone.

These new cordless hammer drills are designed to address and exceed the needs of professionals. A two-piece rare-earth magnet motor, guarantees reliable power. An optimally designed cool air flow increases the cooling efficiency around the motor, protecting the hammer drill from overload during continuous operation. Tool life is greatly extended with replaceable armatures and externally accessible carbon brushes.

The DV18DMR and DV14DMR feature ½" industrial grade keyless chucks. The metal chuck can be tightened with one hand and the ratcheting lock mechanism prevents bit slippage. Also featured on each drill is a 22-stage slip clutch for precise drilling and driving. Both come equipped with Hitachi's patented 5-position belt hook (mountable on either side) with an integrated LED work light to conveniently illuminate dark workspaces. A non-slip elastomer grip provides more control, comfort and absorbs vibration.

These hammer drills are also some of the most compact and lightweight in their class. Measuring less than 10 inches and weighing approximately 5.5 and 6 lbs respectively, they offer flexibility and maneuverability in tight or overhead spaces.

The new series of cordless DMR hammer drills reflect the aggressive new Inspire design being implemented by Hitachi Power Tools. Hitachi is pioneering yet another new trend in the industry- tools that incorporate the latest technology with ergonomic design- a look that will modernize the traditional workshop or jobsite.

Hitachi's DV18DMR and DV14DMR cordless hammer drills come complete with two high-capacity batteries, charger, removable side handle, driver bit and a durable injection molded plastic case. They are the ideal cordless tools to tighten and loosen fasteners, drill into wood materials, plastic, steel, aluminum, brick and concrete block.
