New Surface Mount RF Inductors Provide Cost-Effective COTS Alternative to Mil Spec Products

SMRF 1010 Inductors Respond to Market Need in Military & Other RF Applications

6 June 2005, Gowanda, NY (USA) – Gowanda Electronics announces the introduction of a new series of surface mount RF inductors – SMRF 1010 – which provides a cost-effective alternative to equivalent Mil Spec (Military Specification) products. This new SMRF 1010 series of COTS (Commercial Off-The-Shelf) inductors assists design engineers with their efforts to address the market need for lower cost systems in military and other RF applications.

This SMRF 1010 series is specifically designed for applications in military communications (space, satellite, radio and GPS/Global Positioning Systems), as well as in crystal oscillators and wireless networks where Mil Spec products have traditionally been used due to the lack of commercial equivalents.

This SMRF 1010 series is targeted for use in RF applications where requirements call for wire bond or surface mount inductors designed with wrap around gold plated termination on a ceramic base.

Applications for this series include all RF signal circuitry in communications equipment, test & measurement equipment, medical diagnostic equipment and industrial process control equipment. Other applications include use in telecommunications, navigation equipment, networking, and other computer peripherals, as well as in security systems, instrumentation, bar code and laboratory analysis equipment, aviation equipment, navigation equipment, electronic test equipment, and cable TV.

The cost-effective COTS design is accomplished via Gowanda’s automated manufacturing process.

Technical specifications for products in the SMRF 1010 series include these ranges: inductance from 0.12 to 27 microHenries and current ratings from 880 to 120 mAmps DC (based on a 35C temperature rise and a 90C ambient temperature).

The SMRF 1010 series provides design engineers a COTS surface mount equivalent for “MIL-C-83446/4” MIL STD inductors. The SMRF 1010 is the first in a series of new products from Gowanda Electronics providing COTS equivalents to components addressed by MIL-C-83446 standards.

Gowanda Electronics also offers custom designs in the SMRF 1010 series in order to meet the specific requirements of an application. For design details or custom requirements contact Gowanda Electronics at (716) 532-2234 or check the company website at www.gowanda.com. Typical pricing for the SMRF 1010 series is $2.28/unit (US Funds) in production quantities.

This new SMRF 1010 series complements Gowanda’s extensive range of leading edge inductor designs for power and RF applications.
