Pneumatic Actuators provide automatic valve control.
June 23, 2005 - Featuring 4-piston rack and pinion design, Series PCD and PCS work with range of all-plastic, corrosion-resistant ball and butterfly valves, from ¼ in. ball valves up to 24 in. butterfly valves. Torque outputs range from 60–15,800 lb-in. with minimum inlet air pressure of 80 psi. Double-acting Series PCD requires air pressure for both open and close cycles, while Series PCS utilizes mechanical spring to operate one cycle and air pressure to operate other.

New, Compact Pneumatic Actuator for Automatic Valve Control
Hayward's new Series PCD and PCS pneumatic valve actuators feature a four piston rack and pinion design for high torque output. This rugged rack and pinion design also permits the actuator to be physically smaller than other design types, an important consideration in applications with tight space requirements.
Series PCD and PCS Pneumatic Actuators from Hayward work with the company's complete range of all plastic, corrosion resistant ball and butterfly valves, from tiny 1/4" ball valves all the way up to huge 24" size butterfly valves. Torque outputs range from 60 inch pounds up to 15,800 inch pounds with a minimum inlet air pressure of only 80 psi.
The PCD model is a double acting actuator and requires air pressure for both the open and close cycles of operation. The PCS model is an air to spring or fail safe design that utilizes a mechanical spring to operate one of the actuation cycles while air pressure is used to operate the other.
These new actuators from Hayward have many standard features that meet the requirements of most applications. A manual override makes it possible to operate the actuator by hand in the event of air or electrical failure. A position indicator on the top of the actuator clearly shows the position of the actuator and whether the valve is open or closed. For harsh environmental conditions, the actuators come standard with a tough epoxy coated housing. Permanent lubrication, adjustable travel stops, and NAMUR solenoid mounting are among the other standard features.
For specialized applications, PCD and PCS actuators can be ordered with special voltage solenoid valves, positioners, a position transmitter or cycle speed controls.
