Seals protect equipment in drilling environments.

June 7, 2005 - BAL™ Seal series U–13X, U–14X, and KS13X ensure down–hole data logging tools remain isolated from harsh, abrasive drilling environments. Sealing technologies U–13X and U–14X withstand 25,000 psi down–hole pressure and 150 psi differential sealing pressure in oil drilling operations, while KS13X suits press–in metal locking ring retention systems. Constructed of filled PTFE seal material, each system incorporates canted–coil spring energizers that provide near–constant force.

BALâ„¢ Seal Series U-13X, U-14X and KS13X Sealing Technologies

To ensure that the down–hole data logging tools used in oil drilling applications function properly, the tools' delicate electronic components must be isolated from harsh, abrasive drilling environments. Bal Seal Engineering's sealing technologies – BAL™ Seal series U–13X, U–14X and KS13X – offer these components the highest levels of protection. The U–13X and U–14X sealing technologies are designed to withstand the extremely high pressures inherent in oil drilling operations: 25,000 psi down–hole pressure and 150 psi differential sealing pressure. Meanwhile, the KS13X sealing technology offers top performance in press–in metal locking ring retention systems.

The U–13X, U–14X and KS13X sealing technologies incorporate patented, canted–coil spring energizers, which provide near–constant force for long seal lifetimes. Constructed of filled PTFE seal material, the three products are compatible with numerous fluids and exhibit superb wear-resistance. In addition, they withstand drilling environment temperatures of –40°F to 400°F.

Traditionally, packings and elastomeric seals have served as sealing technologies for oil industry down–hole data logging tools. But these seal types are characterized by relatively short lifetimes, which increase the chances of random and costly operational failures. On the other hand, the BAL™ Seal series of U–13X, U–14X and KS13X sealing technologies are designed for excellent sealing performance, optimal reliability and long lifetimes.
