ASL Introduces R6 VHT, a Robust, Remote Eye Tracking System

Bedford, Massachusetts, USA – Applied Science Laboratories (ASL), the world’s leading eye tracking technology developer, announces the introduction of its newest and most robust remote eye tracking system, the Model R6 VHT. This remote unit is designed to quickly and accurately track eye movement of any subject across the widest age range, from infants to elderly, and includes video head tracking which eliminates the need to put anything on the head. It is intended for situations where the stimulus presented to the subject is restricted to a single surface, such as a computer or video monitor, or where head-mounted optics are not desirable. The R6 VHT system accurately tracks eye movement even with significant head motion, and automatically reacquires the eye when the subject looks away and returns.

Additional ease of use features include automatic acquisition of the eye when the subject sits down, automatic discrimination and automatic calibration. This facilitates quick and easy setup and allows novice users to operate the system.

ASL’s R6 VHT is the only system that uses bright pupil technology, providing superior capture and contrast. It is supplied with a software development kit (including user-friendly data analysis software) that is compatible with other familiar programs including Excel and Matlab, ePrime and Presentation. The unit provides real-time feedback during the tracking session.

ASL offers both head-mounted and remote eye tracking systems for research and industry. The R6 VHT, as a remote unit (not worn or mounted on the subject), provides the dual advantages of very fast and accurate head movement compensation with nothing attached to the subject’s head, particularly useful when monitoring the eye movements of infants or young children.

Eye tracking systems have a wide range of medical research applications and could have significant potential for early detection and treatment of various disorders. Eye tracking systems provide an important design evaluation and research tool for computer displays used in aviation, aerospace, defense and industry. Applications include design of simulators, computer displays and control panels used in air traffic facilities, aircraft and cockpits, vehicles and complex manufacturing displays. Other important applications in communications technology encompass advertising, packaging and publication design, software development and complex traffic signals and signs.

Applied Science Laboratories has been a pioneer in the examination of the human eye’s movements and pupil dynamics for over 30 years. ASL was the first company to develop a head-mounted eye tracker, eye/head integration, parallax-free optics, and many other features that are industry standard. ASL’s current range of computer-based eye movement measurement equipment has eye-tracking applications in moving vehicles, sports, WEB design, pupilometry and many more. ASL currently has tracking systems in the fields of medicine, cognitive psychology, training, simulation, biomechanics and human factors research.
