MIL-C-22992, Class L Connectors Now Available From CDM Electronics

QPL’d Rugged Shell Type Connectors Engineered for Extreme Military and Industrial Power Applications

May 5, 2005, Turnersville, NJ...CDM Electronics, a leading distributor of commercial and military (MIL-SPEC) interconnect products, and premier provider of value-added contract manufacturing services, today announced the availability of Class L connectors from WPI for the heaviest electrical loads. Qualified per MIL-C-22992, MS90556, and MS90557, the Class L connector is the largest size cylindrical available, offering the greatest capacity. It boasts a current range of 40 to 200 amps, and conductor sizes ranging from 6 to 4/0. Additionally, the QPL’d unit provides unparalleled performance and reliability in extreme environments while ensuring safety. The device is highly suitable for mission-critical applications in the aerospace industry, and throughout the defense industry including the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines. This robust connector may also be confidently employed in such industrial applications as communication satellites and commercial aircraft.

The Class L connector is uniquely engineered to optimize safety. It offers an arc quenching design to safeguard users when connectors are separated under load, while its programmed coupling sequence makes sure grounding and neutral contacts engage before the power contacts. At unmating, the power circuits are broken before the ground or neutral circuits. A 5-key polarizing system is employed to preclude the mating of circuits with incompatible power characteristics (voltage, phase and frequency).

To promote the utmost in reliability, this standardized device’s insert arrangement specifies connector/cable combinations. Its double stub coupling threads facilitate easy cleaning, faster mating and minimal risk of cross threading. Rigorously tested in harsh environments, the unit’s design provides strategically placed grommets and seals to provide superior weather-tight connections. Left-hand accessory treads minimize the incidence of wire breakage and cable twisting, as well as protect the connector from unintentional disassembly.

Class Ls are offered in shell sizes 28, 32, 44, and 52, with current ratings of 40, 60, 100, and 200 amps respectively. Corresponding contact sizes are 6, 4, 1/0 and 4/0. The QPL’d device is engineered to facilitate straight-line accessory attachment to help prevent cable twisting or misalignment. The singularly durable connector is manufactured of high-strength aluminum, and features copper alloy, silver over nickel contacts.

Pricing for CDM’s Class L heavy-duty cylindrical connector starts at $260.00 each. Delivery is from stock. Contact the company for OEM configurations and cable assembly fabrication options.
