OSHA-Compliant Apollo® Lockout Prevents Accidental Operation, Injuries During Service
MATTHEWS, N.C. – Apollo® has developed an OSHA-compliant lockout device designed to protect workers from accidents and injuries during servicing and maintenance of actuator-controlled valves.
According to OSHA, the federal worker health agency, the absence of lockouts and tagouts is the second most common violation in the workplace. Protecting workers from accidental valve operation has saved hundreds of lives.
Available in six different sizes, the Apollo lockout unit features top and bottom ISO 5211-style tapping so it mounts easily between an actuator and valve. The unit locks an automated valve into a fully open or closed position and accommodates up to six different locks. Also, the device can be affixed with an OSHA-approved safety tag.
Designed for long-term protection, the Apollo lockout unit is ruggedly built with an investment cast 316 stainless steel housing and base plate, and 300 Series stainless steel fastener, lock pin and coupling. Acetal bushings located above and below the coupling provide strength and support and enable the lockout unit to withstand torque and tension generated by the operation of the attached actuator.
The lockout units are the perfect safety accessory for Apollo CompacTorque rack and pinion actuators and Apollo ball valves. The lockout unit can be fitted to electric actuators though special attention should be given to avoid motor burnout when in an energized and locked position.
