Thermo Electron Introduces the Finnigan Element XR Mass Spectrometer for Wide Concentration Range Elemental Analyses

BREMEN, Germany (April 6, 2005) – Thermo Electron Corporation (NYSE: TMO) announces the introduction of the Finnigan ELEMENT XR ICP mass spectrometer, incorporating an improved detection system with an extended linear dynamic range (>1012). This new instrument offers new possibilities, for example in laser ablation, and removes the need to use multiple instruments for wide concentration range elemental analyses.

Primarily targeted at scientists in the geological, environmental, clinical and industrial markets, Thermo’s new Finnigan ELEMENT XR ICP mass spectrometer features three additional orders of magnitude of dynamic detection range compared to similar systems.

The Finnigan ELEMENT XR combines SEM and Faraday detector systems with an increased linear dynamic range including automated selection of detection mode and automated cross-calibration. It allows short integration times (down to 1 ms) with no delay times when switching from high to low intensities or vice versa.
