Gateway M680 Widescreen Mobile Workstation Raises the Bar for Mobile Performance and Graphics

Also Launched Today, the New Gateway M360 Value Thin and Light Notebook Combines Great Features and Affordability

IRVINE, Calif., March 31 -- Gateway today takes mobile computing to new highs with the Gateway(R) M680 notebook PC, the company's new 17-inch widescreen mobile workstation that provides the ultimate in performance and dedicated graphics capabilities for professionals and consumers.

The new Gateway M680 provides several significant improvements over its popular predecessor, the M675, and delivers several advanced features unavailable from other products in its class. Shipping with the latest Intel Centrino Mobile technology(1) and ATI Mobility RADEON X700 PCI Express graphics, the Gateway M680 delivers double the graphics performance of its predecessor. And despite all of the performance enhancements, the Gateway M680 is a pound lighter and significantly thinner than its predecessor -- the new Gateway M680 weighs just 7.7 pounds and measures as thin as 1.24 inches.(2)

"With the launch of the new Gateway M680 notebook, we are once again upping the ante in the notebook market by delivering one of the most powerful and innovative new 17-inch widescreen notebooks available today," said Dan Stevenson, Gateway's vice president, product marketing. "The M680 combines the performance you expect in a workstation or high-end desktop PC, with a notebook that doesn't sacrifice size, weight or battery life."

Additionally, with the new Gateway M360, Gateway makes attractive 15.4-inch widescreen displays more accessible to consumers. It is one of the industry's lowest-priced 15.4-inch widescreen notebooks with prices starting at just $849.99.

Gateway M680: Ultimate Mobile Performance for Work, Graphics and Gaming

The new Gateway M680 notebook boasts an impressive 17-inch widescreen display, the most powerful Intel mobile technologies available, dedicated PCI Express graphics and other advanced features to provide the ultimate in mobile performance for work and play.

The Gateway M680 was designed from the ground up to deliver the best system performance in a truly mobile computer. Based on the Intel(R) 915 chipset, the M680 features the latest Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processors with 533MHz front side bus and fast Dual Channel DDR2 memory expandable to 2GB. Ready for graphic-intense applications and digital media, the Gateway M680 includes dedicated ATI Mobility RADEON(R) X700 PCI Express graphics with up to 128MB of video memory, up to 7200rpm hard drives, and the latest in Dual Layer Multi-format DVD-RW drive. The M680 also includes all of the high speed connectivity required by mobile workstation professionals including 10/100/1000 Ethernet and 802.11b/g or 802.11a/b/g wireless LAN.

The M680 is the perfect mobile platform for enterprise customers supporting Gateway's stable hardware and image programs. In addition, IT departments will appreciate how the M680 and other Gateway notebooks for professionals reduce long-term costs and platform management by sharing the same components and accessories like the advanced port replicator, batteries and AC adapters. For example, IT can stock or install one Gateway AC Adapter in conference rooms and support the entire new family of Gateway notebooks for professionals. Also, the M680 can be utilized in a range of environments, since it can be customized with a wide array of features, including processors, memory, hard drives and optical drives.

One of the most dramatic aspects of the Gateway M680 is the PC's high-resolution 17-inch widescreen display. It accommodates large spreadsheets or multiple applications on the screen simultaneously, allowing professionals to easily review multiple information sources at once.

"Widescreen format notebooks are increasingly sought after by both businesses and consumers," said Roger Kay, vice president, client computing, IDC. "These generously sized machines let customers take advantage of extra screen real estate to view more data at once or enjoy a more compelling digital entertainment experience."

Another differentiating feature is the notebook's dedicated 10-key numeric key pad that makes it more convenient for finance, engineering and other professionals to quickly input numerical data.

All of the high-performance features that make Gateway's M680 the ultimate mobile workstation also enable it to be the premier gaming and entertainment notebook. With high-end 17-inch widescreen panels, the latest in Intel chipset and processor technologies, and the latest ATI RADEON PCI Express graphics, the M680 is ideal for games, graphics and DVD movies. Premium features like the latest multi-format DVD/CD burner and a four-in-one memory card reader give computer users a convenient way to access, store and share digital media.

Gateway will offer several suggested configurations that may be customized, ranging from an entry level model priced at only $1,399.99 up to the ultimate mobile workstation. Sample suggested configurations include the following:

The Gateway M680S, priced at just $1,399.99, includes Intel Centrino Mobile technology(1) with an Intel Pentium M processor 730 (1.6GHz, 2MB cache, 533MHz front side bus), 512MB 400MHz DDR2 dual channel memory, 40GB hard disk drive(3), a CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive, and ATI Mobility RADEON x700 graphics with 64MB video memory. The Gateway M680S notebook comes standard with Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition and Microsoft Works 8.0.

The Gateway M680XL can be maximized with the most advanced technology to make it the ultimate mobile workstation. It includes Intel Centrino Mobile technology(1) with an Intel Pentium M processor 770 (2.13GHz, 2MB, 533MHz front side bus), 2GB DDR2 dual channel memory, 60GB 7200RPM hard disk drive(3), an 8x DVD+/-R/RW/CD-RW recorder and ATI Mobility RADEON x700 PCI Express graphics with 128MB video memory. The Gateway M680XL notebook comes standard with Microsoft Windows XP Professional Edition and Microsoft Works 8.0. The Gateway M680XL is priced at $2,864.99.

Gateway M360: Thin and Light with a Widescreen Display at a Great Low Price

The new Gateway M360 notebook illustrates Gateway's commitment to providing customers with the most value for their money. The M360 offers the most popular, mainstream features such as 15.4-inch widescreen display, choice of Intel Celeron and Pentium M Processors, Intel 802.11 b/g wireless LAN, and a full selection of hard drives, memory configurations and optical drive formats. It features a thin and light design at prices that are affordable for students, families, and small office/home office users. The system's starting price of just $849.99 makes the M360 one of the lowest priced, highest value 15.4-inch widescreen notebooks available on the market.

The new system's 15.4-inch widescreen display is optimized for DVD playback, providing 30 percent more horizontal display space over a standard 15-inch display. In addition to a great entertainment platform, the widescreen format makes schoolwork, research on the internet, and digital photography more engaging, while business users will find it easier to work on large spreadsheets and word processing documents with the widescreen notebook. Even with the wide display, the notebook maintains a compact form factor weighing only six pounds and measuring as thin as 1.3 inches.(4)

Unlike most entry-priced notebook PCs, the Gateway M360 provides enhanced battery life and extended battery options. Making it easier to remain productive on the road, at school or in the office, the notebook line offers up to 6.75 hours using the high capacity 12-cell battery, up to 5.5 hours using the extended 8-cell battery, or up to 3.5 hours of battery life using the standard 6-cell Lithium Ion battery.(5) Like all of Gateway's notebook and desktop PCs sold direct, the Gateway M360 can be customized with a wide range of features, processors, memory, hard drives and optical drives, so customers can get the features that they really want. Gateway will offer several suggested configurations of the Gateway M360, including the following:

The Gateway M360S, offered at a starting price of only $849.99, includes an Intel Celeron M Processor 350 (1.3GHz, 1MB cache and 400MHz front side bus), a 15.4-inch widescreen WXGA TFT Active Matrix Display, 256MB of DDR memory, a 40GB hard drive(3), a 24x-max CD-ROM drive, integrated Broadcom 802.11g Wireless and a 6-cell battery. It comes standard with Microsoft Windows XP Home edition and Microsoft Works 8.0.

The Gateway M360X, offered at a starting price of $1,149.99, includes Intel Centrino Mobile technology(1) with an Intel Pentium M processor 715 (1.5GHz, 2MB cache and 400MHz front side bus). It also has a 15.4-inch widescreen WXGA TFT Active Matrix Display, 512MB of DDR2 memory, a 60GB hard drive(3), a CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive, integrated Intel PRO 802.11g Wireless and a 6-cell battery. The Gateway M360X notebook comes standard with Microsoft Windows XP Home edition and Microsoft Works 8.0.
