Lennox Introduces World's First Air Conditioner Rated at 20+ SEER for Energy Efficiency

DALLAS, March 30 -- Lennox Industries Inc. introduced the world's first residential air conditioner rated at over 20 SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating). Rated at up to 20.5 SEER, the XC21 is the most quiet and efficient central air conditioner on the market today, according to manufacturers' published ratings. A recognized leader in the climate control industry for 110 years, Lennox Industries is a division of Lennox International Inc. (NYSE:LII).

"Basing the XC21 design on detailed input from more than 13,000 homeowners and almost 1,000 contractors, Lennox has seamlessly combined state-of-the-art in home comfort and serviceability," said Bob McDonough, president and COO, LII Worldwide Heating and Cooling. "It's the most impressive example yet of our commitment to lead the industry in meaningful innovation."

With an energy efficiency rating of up to an unprecedented 20.5 SEER, the XC21 is the latest addition to Lennox's Dave Lennox Signature(TM) Collection, a product line that includes the most exciting and innovative products the heating and air conditioning industry has to offer today. The XC21 also features a distinctive new cabinet design, including SmartHinge(TM) louvered panels that are more attractive to homeowners and more service-friendly for contractors. The new cabinet shape, look, and color add to the unit's attractively unique appearance.

Inside, the XC21 features a two-stage scroll compressor with two levels of operation: high for hotter summer days and low for milder days. This allows for more energy-efficient operation because the low setting is adequate to meet household cooling demands up to 80% of the time. Its high-efficiency outdoor coil provides exceptional heat transfer and low air resistance for more efficient operation.

As an Energy Star product, the XC21 meets the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) standards by using less energy, which reduces pollution. It uses chlorine-free R410A refrigerant, which meets the EPA's most stringent environmental guidelines. Engineered with exclusive SilentComfort(TM) technology, the XC21 includes the latest innovations to reduce noise, including a patent-pending fan design, compressor with new vibration insulators, a new sound-dampening fan grill, and a Hushtone(R) cabinet. It is approximately 13 times quieter than a standard air conditioner.

The XC21 also features the exclusive Lennox System Operations Monitor, which reviews system performance -- similar to diagnostics systems in cars. For additional peace of mind and faster, easier service, it can communicate with select thermostats with a "call for service" indicator. The XC21 is also backed by a 10-year limited warranty on the compressor and a five-year limited warranty on all remaining covered components.

"The XC21 shows how Lennox continues to innovate by listening closely to the changing needs of our dealers and their customers," said McDonough. "Ongoing consumer and dealer input plays a major role in our quest to be the innovation leader in our industry."

Lennox Industries is a subsidiary of Lennox International Inc. Operating in over 100 countries, LII is a global leader in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration markets.
