Modeling Resin helps visualize details.

April 14, 2005 - Designed for Eden333 PolyJet system, VeroBlueâ„¢ acrylic photo-polymer resin allows users to see more detail than transparent model allows, and achieves resolution of 16 microns. Opaque, blue-colored material helps make models look more like injection-molded part without need for paint. Changeover steps from transparent resin to VeroBlue take less than 15 min, and require replacing material cartridge and following automated wizard set-up process.

New PolyJet Modeling Resin Stronger Than Original Material

VeroBlue Resin Helps Visualize Details; Is First in Series of New Colors

Minneapolis, Feb. 11 — (Nasdaq: SSYS) Rapid prototyping system maker, Stratasys, today introduced VeroBlue™ — a new acrylic photo-polymer resin for the Eden333 PolyJet system, manufactured by Objet Geometries. VeroBlue has improved mechanical properties over the original transparent resin.

Customarily measured mechanical property values of VeroBlue are better than or equal to the original resin, with improvements in all standard strength ratings (tensile strength, flexural strength, notched impact strength, and compression strength).

Besides mechanical property improvements, the opaque, colored material allows users to see more detail than a transparent model allows, which will improve edge and fine-feature visualization. Resolution capabilities are unchanged from original resin, so 16 micron (0.0006 in.) resolution is achievable. The blue-colored material is the first in a series of colored resins being developed, and a white resin is planned for the second quarter of this year. The colored material will also help those who want to make models look more like an injection molded part without the need for paint.

Change-over steps from transparent resin to VeroBlue take less than 15 minutes. Steps include replacing the material cartridge and following an automated "wizard" set-up process at the workstation. This is in comparison to the laborious and often expensive process for changing some resin-based systems.

Material development is a key R & D objective at Objet, which continues to develop new resins for their PolyJet systems. Besides the new line of opaque, colored resins, Objet has under development a resin series with rubber-like elasticity. VeroBlue and future colored materials such as VeroWhite will be part of the "FullCure® 800" series of photopolymers.

Customarily measured mechanical properties referred to in paragraph 2 are tensile-, flexural- and Izod notched impact strength; elongation at break; elasticity modulus; flexural modulus; compression strength; and hardness. VeroBlue's heat distortion temperature is 1°C lower than original transparent resin. For a full comparison of mechanical property improvements, readers should contact their Stratasys sales rep. wwww.stratasys.com, 1-800-480-3548.

In addition to PolyJet Systems, which are manufactured by Objet Geometries, Stratasys sells FDM (fused deposition modeling) systems, which it manufactures. The company markets the complementary technologies in packages that it calls "the best of both worlds."

Stratasys Inc., Minneapolis, manufactures office-based rapid prototyping systems and 3D printers. In 2003, the company supplied 37 percent of all such systems installed worldwide, making it the unit market leader, according to Wohlers Report 2004. Stratasys patented the rapid prototyping process known as fused deposition modeling (FDM). The process creates functional models directly from 3D CAD files using ABS plastic, polycarbonate, and PPSF. Stratasys equipment is used by industry OEMs, such as aerospace, defense, automotive, medical, electronic, and consumer product makers. These rapid prototyping systems are also used for rapid manufacturing and rapid tooling applications. For more information on the company go to www.Stratasys.com.

PolyJet and VeroBlue are trademarks, and FullCure is a registered trademark of Objet Geometries, Ltd. Eden333 is a trademark, and FDM is a registered trademark of Stratasys, Inc.
