April 14, 2005 - Non-contact Series LK-G provides measurement range of 7 in. with 0.0004 mil resolution, ±0.03% accuracy, and 50 kHz sampling speed. Units offer stability with fast moving, rotating, and vibrating targets, as well as inline applications requiring data averaging. Active Balanced Laser Control Engine senses target surface conditions and adjusts laser light intensity to optimal level. Performance is unaffected by reflections, color, or surface coatings.

New Laser Displacement Sensor Incorporates High-Speed, High-Accuracy CCD Technology

The new LK-G Series Laser Displacement Sensors from Keyence provide the ultimate in non-contact measurement technology and performance. With a resolution of 0.0004 Mil (0.01 urn), a high-accuracy of ±0.03%, and an ultra-fast 50 kHz sampling speed, the LK-G Series offers measurement performance that cannot be achieved with conventional displacement sensors.

The LK-G Series combines high resolution and accuracy with a long range of over 7" to offer first-in-class measurement performance. The new sensors provide superior stability, not only with fast moving, rotating, or vibrating targets, but also with inline applications requiring data averaging. The LK-G achieves accuracy that is beyond the bounds of conventional CCD laser displacement sensors. Precise, stable measurements can be easily and accurately obtained on any type of surface or material.

The LK-G Series Laser Displacement Sensors use a dedicated Li-CCD (Linearized CCD), which was developed by Keyence specifically for sensor applications, to output the position of light within a pixel to achieve accuracy that is two times higher than conventional models. Additionally, the proprietary LK-G design achieves a speed that is 25 times faster with a sensitivity that is ten times higher than conventional systems.

Keyence has also developed a new light-receiving unit to concentrate reflected light onto the Li-CCD. A newly developed high-accuracy Ernostar lens system drastically reduces spot distortion caused by aberrations. A highly rigid die-cast body reduces deviations caused by temperature change.

Keyence's ABLE (Active Balanced Laser control Engine) technology, senses target surface conditions and adjusts the laser light intensity to an optimal level providing a 13,000 times wider range of light intensity than previously possible. With ABLE, LK-G performance is unaffected by reflections, color or surface coatings.

ABLE provides exceptional measurement performance on targets such as black-rubber, mirror-surfaced, and metal targets. An RPD (Real Peak detection) algorithm, developed by Keyence, cancels the diffused light caused by laser beam reflections inside translucent targets. RPD makes it possible to obtain highly-accurate measurements on translucent targets like plastic and PCB plus transparent materials such as LCD cover glass and a wide range of glass materials.
