Smart Encoder offers max shaft speed of 6,000 rpm.

April 4, 2005 - Combining encoder and motor control circuit into one unit, Hercules Smart Encoder automatically adjusts motor speed via PWM signal to modify speed as motor load changes. Unit offers bi-directional shaft direction and is available in shaft sizes of 3/8 and ½ in. Measuring 2.5 in. dia, enclosure is NEMA 6P and IEC IP67 rated with sealing in servo, flush, or flanged mounting. Factory programming includes measurements for direction, distance, speed, and/or acceleration of shaft.

NEL Frequency Controls Introduces the Smart Encoder

Burlington, WI (March 14, 2005) NEL Frequency Controls, Inc. announced today the release of its new Hercules Smart Encoder, which combines the encoder and motor control circuit into one unit to simplify the design of control loop motor controls. This innovative approach simplifies the task of interfacing between the motor, the encoder and the control. Each Smart Encoder is programmed separately, according to the parameters provided for the individual application.

β€œThe Smart Encoder simplifies the design task of the motor control circuitry,” notes Chuck Ulland, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at NEL Frequency Controls. β€œIn most cases, all that is required is to provide the parameters to NEL, we program the Smart Encoder at the factory, and it is connected to the motor when it arrives.” The Smart Encoder can automatically adjust the motor speed via a pulse width modulated signal to modify the speed as there are changes in the motor load. It has a maximum shaft speed of 6,000 RPM, with bidirectional shaft direction and comes in standard shaft sizes of 3/8” and 1/2”. The enclosure is 2.5” in diameter, types NEMA 6P and IEC IP 67, with sealing in servo, flush or flanged mounting. Factory programming includes measurements for direction, distance, speed and/or acceleration of the shaft to which the Smart Encoder is connected. These settings can be changed by the user. NEL Frequency Controls is a U.S. based manufacturer of crystal oscillators, located in Burlington, WI. Hercules Encoders manufactures a line of encoders and is a subsidiary of NEL. The company is recognized worldwide for its leading edge frequency control solutions and supports mission critical applications through its HALT/HASS reliability program that ensures oscillator robustness and start-up reliability. NEL Frequency Controls is ISO 9001-2000 certified. For more information about NEL, call the company at 262-763-3591 or visit their Web site at www.nelfc.com.
