Mechanical Insulation provides flexible fire protection.
March 11, 2005 - Measuring ½ in. thick, FlameChek™ non-ceramic, glass fiber insulation blanket provides single-layer, flexible enclosure around combustible items located within fire-rated return air plenums. Non-ceramic FlameChek™Plus2 duct insulation blanket measures 2 in. thick and has 2 hr fire rating in single-layer applications. Measuring 1½ in. thick, FlameChek™ non-ceramic insulation blanket provides double-layer system for grease duct applications requiring 1 or 2 hr rating.

CertainTeed's Flame Chek Mechanical Insulation Products Provides Fire Protection In a Variety of Applications
CertainTeed's family of FlameChek™ mechanical insulation products is designed for applications that require adherence to combustibility requirements and fire rating. FlameChek™ Plenum Insulation, the newest FlameChek product, provides a single-layer, flexible enclosure around combustible items located within fire-rated return air plenums. The ½-in.-thick non-ceramic, glass fiber, high-temperature insulation blanket can be used in new construction or building renovations. In addition, it can be used when modifications to the electrical and mechanical systems result in the installation of plastic pipe and cables that cannot meet the minimum combustibility requirements defined in the Mechanical Code. FlameChek™Plus2 Duct Insulation is a non-ceramic, high-temperature insulation blanket that gives a two-hour fire rating in a single-layer application. It is designed for use in many commercial and industrial passive fire protection applications, such as commercial cooking operations. The easily installed 2-in.-thick product delivers the same performance in one layer that previously required two layers, while simplifying field installation. It provides a tested, alternative fire protective enclosure in lieu of constructing a traditional shaft wall enclosure. The flexible fire protection wrap saves critical building space in commercial and industrial applications, allowing for zero clearance to combustibles at the overlap or collar. FlameChek™ Duct Insulation is a 1 ½-in.-thick, non-ceramic high-temperature insulation blanket designed to be an easily installed double-layer system for grease duct applications requiring a one-hour or two-hour rating. Like FlameChekPlus2, it is designed for commercial and industrial passive fire protection applications and is encapsulated with a flame-resistant scrim specifically designed to survive the rigors of installation.
