IGBTs target TIG welder applications.

March 4, 2005 - Models APT200GN60J and APT200GN60JDQ4 insulated gate bipolar transistors use Field Stop Trench Gate Technology and are offered in industry standard SOT-227 package. Units operate up to 30 kHz hard-switched and are 10 ΅s short circuit rated. In addition to being used in output inverter of aluminum TIG welders, devices can be used in any application requiring low conduction losses at high currents and 0–30 kHz switching speed.

New IGBT for TIG Welder Applications

Bend OR….. Advanced Power Technology (NASDAQ: APTI) is pleased to announce two new IGBT products for TIG Welding applications: APT200GN60J and APT200GN60JDQ4. These discrete devices use the latest generation Field Stop Trench Gate Technology and are offered in the industry standard SOT-227 package. These products are specifically targeted for TIG welding applications, and are an addition to APT’s new product line of discrete Field Stop IGBTs. APT200GN60J is a single IGBT and APT200GN60JDQ4 includes a 100A anti-parallel diode. Other anti-parallel diode options are available.

Key Features

• Efficiency – very low conduction loss

• High current capacity

• Easy to parallel – tight parameter distribution and positive temperature coefficient

• Wide forward safe operating area – reliable linear mode operation

• 10΅s short circuit rated

• Short tail current due to Field Stop technology – operates up to 30kHz hard-switched

• Cost effective alternative to modules in high current applications

Applications

These IGBTs are used in the output inverter of aluminum TIG welders. The device can also be used in any application requiring very low conduction losses at high currents and 0 to 30 kHz switching speed.

Data sheets are available to assist the designer, describing the features and benefits of this new 600V IGBT in greater detail. These may be downloaded from APT’s website at http://www.advancedpower.com/ or obtained from the factory.

Availability

Samples are available now. Lead time for large quantity 8-12 weeks. 1K pricing is $12.97.

With Operations in Bend, Oregon, Santa Clara, California, Montgomeryville, Pennsylvania and Bordeaux France, APT is a leading supplier of power semiconductors for RF, Microwave, Linear, and Switch Mode Applications.
