Opengear Levels the Playing Field Bringing Affordable Console Manager to Small and Mid-Sized Enterprises

Company Introduces Secure, Reliable CM4000 Console Servers and KVM over IP Solutions at LinuxWorld Conference & Expo in Boston

WEST JORDAN, Utah and BRISBANE, Australia, Feb. 14 - Opengear Inc., a new, quality supplier of console server manager and KVM over IP solutions, today introduced its CM4000 console server suite for small and mid-sized enterprises.

The Opengear eight, 16 and 48-port solutions enable IT managers and systems administrators to control hundreds of serial consoles from anywhere in the world, any time of day. The CM4000 serial console server provides secure, affordable access to serial console ports on Windows, Sun and Linux servers. Opengear's CM4000 product suite can also monitor and control network appliances including routers, gateways, office security, PBXs and power switches.

Opengear's CM4000 feature-rich, console server ensures the secure management and monitoring of remote devices. Leveraging the power of Opengear's CM4008, CM4116 and CM4148 units, the console server at the remote site can be accessed in-band through the enterprise TCP-IP network or directly through a dial-up modem port. Both connections provide secure, encrypted access to remote systems using up to 128-bit AES encryption. The Opengear CM4000 console server also provides a selection of filtering and access logging facilities, enabling console logs to be archived off-line. Managers also benefit from the option to restrict access by IP address, password or account, guaranteeing the highest level of control and security across distributed networks of servers and appliances.

"Today, 24/7 operation is imperative for small and mid-sized enterprises, not just for the large enterprise data center," said Bob Waldie, CEO and Chairman of Opengear. "With system administrators and IT managers tasked with keeping their computer facilities up and running on a continuous basis, it is essential to have comprehensive console management coverage."

Waldie continued, "Opengear's products have been developed with the small and mid-sized enterprise in mind. To date where competitive applications have been unaffordable at $100-$200 per port, Opengear has leveled the playing field with solutions priced at just $30-$60 per port. With Opengear's CM4000 family of products, we deliver the highest quality console server solutions affordably priced for the smaller office."

Opengear's products are built using okvm open source console and KVM management software, as well as open source KVM hardware. Leveraging the strength and security of Linux, Opengear's CM4000 console server can be customized to meet the business needs of small and mid-sized companies. Shipped with all source code, Opengear's products enable IT managers to add additional code and make any changes necessary to ensure their console server grows alongside their business.

The CM4000 console servers have a simple Web browser to easily configure the appliance, access security and console ports. Using Opengear's products, the IT manager can also interface directly at the command line using the Linux kernel running with Opengear's CM4000 console server.

At the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo in Boston, http://www.linuxworldexpo.com/live/12/events/12BOS05A/exposition/exhibitorinfo //QMONYA04N4RA. Opengear will be demonstrating its simple, secure and cost-effective server management solutions in Booth #122. The Company will also provide a sneak peak at its powerful KVM over IP solutions, which will be formally introduced later this year.

Pricing for the CM4008, 8-port unit is $495 MSRP, the CM4116, 16-port unit is $795 MSRP and the CM4148, 48-port unit is $1,495 MSRP.
