KUKA Robotics Introduces 6-Axis Shelf Mount Robots for Injection Molding

KUKA KS(TM) Series Robots Designed to Increase Flexibility and Improve Cycle Times

Clinton Township, Michigan January 5, 2005 KUKA Robotics Corporation a leading global manufacturer of industrial robots, today introduced its new 6-axis shelf mount KS Series robots. The robots are designed for top loading and unloading of injection molding machines. The KS Series offers an improved low profile design for platen mounted robots which reduces ceiling height requirements on IMM's up to 1200 tons. The KUKA shelf mount design will offer greater downward working envelope when compared to standard floor mounted robot models, which will improve the customer's flexibility and cycle times.

"Our customers have made it clear they need the flexibility of the 6-axis robot but with the low profile capability of a shelf mount form factor," said Joe Campbell, director of strategic alliances for KUKA Robotics Corporation. "The KS Series is ideal for optimizing space while increasing accessibility to the workcell, and is a welcome addition to our family of in-mold and post-mold processing robots."

The KUKA KS Series of shelf mount robots is available in KR 16, 30 and 60 models with payloads to 60kg and vertical reach for part removal to 1800mm. The robots are ideal for top mount integration onto injection-molding machines, for part unloading, insert loading, de-gating, and other post mold processes. In addition, the KS Series robots are well suited for applications on die-casting machines and machine tools for part loading and unloading, palletizing, deburring and part marking.

KUKA Robotics Corporation, with its parent company KUKA Roboter GmbH, Augsburg, Germany is one of the world's leading manufacturers of industrial robots, with an annual production volume approaching 10,000 units, and an installed base of over 60,000 units. The company's 5 and 6 axis robots range from 3kg to 500kg payloads, and 635mm to 3700mm reach, all controlled from a common PC based controller platform. KUKA robots are utilized in a diverse range of industries including the appliance, automotive, aerospace, consumer goods, logistics, food, pharma, medical, and plastics industries and in multiple applications including material handling, machine loading, assembly, packaging, palletizing, welding, bending, joining, and surface finishing.
