Oscillating Unwinders/Rewinders accept small coil spools.
January 6, 2005 - Traverse wound oscillating unwinders and rewinders accommodate small hole spools by locking them in place via conical seats on twin spindles that engage each side. Coil spools or carriers move sideways in synch with speed so pickoff or deposit point remains horizontally fixed. This results in scan wound or unwound coil without induced camber. Spindles open up to release coil, and units feature material tension controls and integral traversing systems.

New Traverse Wound Oscillating Unwinders and Rewinders Have More Features
A new line of oscillating unwinders and rewinders is offered by Barnes Advanced Technology, Inc. The machines have a broader application range than previous equipment of this type.
The units are suited to all normal coil spools, but in addition are engineered to accommodate small hole spools requiring support each side. Small hole spools do not allow shafts strong enough to support the coil in conventional traverse oscillating winders or rewinders using cantilevered shaft coil support. In the new machines the spool is locked in place by conical seats on twin spindles engaging each side. One spindle is fitted with an airmotor powered screwjack, securely retaining the coil. The coil spools or carriers move sideways in synchronism with speed so that the pickoff or deposit point remains horizontally fixed, resulting in a scan wound or unwound coil without induced camber.
Another benefit of the new system is faster and more conpact loading/unloading by coilcar with a minimum of sideways movement to extract the coil. The spindles open up to release the coil, instead of having to slide the coil off a long mandrel.
The units feature full material tension controls and integral traversing systems. Two alternative traverse systems are available. One has mechanically set width limits and winding pitch. The other uses fully automatic electronics which detect the inside cheeks of the spools and autoset the traverse. Both are adjustable for end dwell count and material width.
