New L-Shaped Thru-Beam Sensor Brings Easy Setup-Up and Powerful Sensing Capability to ‘High Impact’ Applications
Combines pre-aligned optics in uniquely shaped steel housing
FLORENCE, KY (January 2005) – Balluff’s new BWL L-shaped thru-beam sensor offers versatility and dependability in hard-duty applications where the sensor may be physically contacted or for applications where a fork-style thru-beam design will not fit. The self-contained BWL houses an intense infrared emitter in a rugged, zinc-plated steel housing that can resist multiple impacts without loss of function. Its high power IR light beam will cut through heavily contaminated air with ample reserve capacity, and its configuration promotes easy installation in a wide variety of applications. These include single and side-by-side dual-track conveyor systems (i.e., between the rollers), destacking processes, parts misalignment, and sensing large objects such as metal plates, or completed assemblies.
One-piece “plug and play” BWL sensors feature pre-aligned optics to allow fast, accurate installation without the need for special brackets or complex beam alignment procedures. Three sizes are available, with optical axes ranging from 22-42 mm. Sealed to IP67 protection level, BWL sensors provide ≤ 0.5 ms response time and switching frequency of 1000 Hz.
BWLs allow a level of precision and ease of installation that is a quantum leap over standard fiber optic technology, according to Balluff. BWLs are always in alignment, so they are easy to install; plus, they are accurate over the entire length of the beam, which means they can detect minute deviations over the entire area of a product being manufactured.
Balluff Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of Balluff GmbH & Co., Neuhausen, Germany, is a leading manufacturer of a wide variety of inductive, optical, capacitive and magnetic sensors as well as linear position transducers and ID systems.
