Getac's New Slate TabletPC Steps into Rugged World, Aptly

~ Mobileforceā„¢ CA27 Takes Full Advantage Of Getac's Experience And Know-How For Rugged Lifestyle And Demanding Computing Environments ~

LAKE FOREST, Calif. (October 5, 2004) - Getac Inc., the leading pioneer of rugged portable computers, today announce their next generation of TabletPCs, the MobileForceā„¢ CA27. The MobileForceā„¢ CA27 is a rough and rugged powerful slate TabletPC manufactured by a company with experience backed by a full product line of portable computers and devices that fully complies with the rigorous requirements and standards of the military yet provides advanced capabilities and an aggressive price point needed by retail users. About the size of copy paper, and under four and a half pounds, the new MobileForceā„¢ CA27 is ideal for such diverse applications from input pads on shipping and delivery docks, notepads for police, fire, and homeland security personnel, flight briefing plans for pilots, and work books for architects and general contractors.

Water, dust, and dirt proof, the lightweight MobileForceā„¢ CA27 slate-type TabletPC provides a reliable device that meets the military's tough 810F standard (Mil-STD 810F), which requires computing devices survive, among other extreme conditions, a minimum of a 3 foot drop impact on hardened surfaces such as concrete and steel plating. This is an important capability since real-world applications of any TabletPC is in the field, warehouse or conditions where applications are rough and risk of falling from a table or desktop is common.

"While other manufacturers are realizing a need to move in this direction, we're already there," stated Joseph Huang, General Manager of Getac, Inc. "The environments that TabletPCs witness require addressing harsh applications from which they will actually be operating in. That means users of our systems don't have to wait for hardware improvements."

With a 10.4 in. XGA TFT LCD digitizer screen (optional sunlight readable display), this tablet device includes a 1.1 GHz Pentium M processor with MS Windows® XP Tablet Edition operating system and fully compatible with Intel Centrino wireless technology. In conjunction with Windows XP Tablet OS, the MobileForceā„¢ CA27 offers improved handwriting to text recognition. The MobileForceā„¢ CAC27 also has the ability to simply store and recall handwritten notes, to annotate handwritten notes onto existing computer documents, and to store information as "digital ink" that can be shared over WI-FI links on other devices. Any application software that currently operates on Windows 2000 and Windows XP will run on the touch screen version of the MobileForceā„¢ CA27.

Essential to ease of use for TabletPCs, touch keys are built in just below the display for unencumbered switching of on an off, monitor controls (volume, battery status, brightness adjustment), wireless keyboard port, Fl, F2 and F3 function keys and a speaker. The MobileForceā„¢ CA27 can easily be set up in a vehicle (i.e. police cruiser or fire truck) with an optional vehicle docking station and an optional wireless keyboard (water, dirt and dust proof), effortlessly switching to and from a TabletPC or standard laptop computer. It can also be used as a desktop/laptop computer with the docking station making it ideal for going to/from a field environment to a vehicle or office.

Further expanding on its capabilities to meet a wide array of applications, the MobileForceā„¢ CA27 hosts a broad range of add-on devices, such as X-bay cartridges, external optical drive, 2nd battery, CCD Cameras, and port replicator.

The MobileForceā„¢ CA27 is built from the ground up for powerful wireless mobility. The ultra--low-voltage 1.1 MHz Pentium M processor has 1MB onboard cache, 64MB shared video memory, backed with up to 1 GB DDR SDRAM and a 40GB, or above, HDD. It is built to operate in all environments from the oil fields of Alaska (operating in temperatures below 0° F) to the Sahara deserts (rated operating high exceeds 130° F) while maintaining contact to the outside world via satellite wireless or wireless connectivity. The MobileForceā„¢ CA27 is fully compatible with Intel's Centrino technology providing Wi-Fi Certified wireless LAN and has the ability to securely connect to 802.11a/b based infrastructures, plus a wide range of industry wireless-LAN security standards such as 802.1X, WEP, WPA, and AES. 56.6K modem, PCMCIA slot, and the unit's unique X-bay options let the user add GPRS/GSM and GPS for true global communications.

The Centrino technology also provides higher power usage efficiency, significantly extending the MobileForceā„¢ CA27's battery life. The Tablet automatically adjusts and "powers down" to extend battery life whenever possible. The unit also has the ability to hot swap its optional 2nd battery, allowing the CA27 to potential to go a complete workday without a recharge.

Price And Availability

The basic MobileForceā„¢ CA27 with 10.4" TFT XGA LCD with resistive touch screen, 40 GB hard drive and 512MB of memory is priced from $3,995. Significant GSA, OEM and ODM discounts are available. Detailed product options and accessories can be found at http://www.getac.com/ca27.htm.
