New Dispensing Pump Completes the 520 Range from Watson-Marlow Bredel

Watson-Marlow Bredel, the leading manufacturer of peristaltic pumps, launches its new 520Di-dispensing pump. The latest addition to the 520 series introduced earlier this year is available in both an IP31 and an IP66 NEMA 4X version. Unlike other pumps used for metering and dosing primarily for processing and industrial applications, the 520Di is specifically targeted at dispensing and batch dosing applications in laboratory environments as well as filling lines in pharmaceutical productions.

Featuring sprung stainless-steel rollers, low rotational speeds and a large swept volume; 520Di is the gentlest, most powerful pumphead yet. Particularly suited for vial or bottle filling of vaccines, biological reagents and diagnostics. The gentle nature of the peristaltic pumping action is important for this type of application because of the fragility of protein string and enzyme based vaccines and other biochemicals, which are easily damaged.

The 520Di has a full dispensing capability enabling accurate batch dispensing and automatic or single shot operation. While the product is being pumped, a ramp and drip feature allows soft start and graduated dosing to prevent splashing or foaming. Users are also able to carry out periodic dose recalibration ‘on-the-fly’ without disturbing the flow of the batch. Up to 50 individual dispensing programs including all dose parameters and calibration and can be stored in the memory with full file name.

The 520Di’s new brushless DC motor has a speed range of 3500:1 and a 0.1% set speed ratio, offering total flexibility of speed control combined with precision and repeatability for the most demanding dispensing applications. A number of different pumpheads can be fitted to the suit the users needs.

Combining extraordinary levels of functionality with an on-screen menu, the 520Di features an easy-to-use tactile membrane keypad and an alphanumeric display in English, German, French, Spanish and Italian. The IP31 version has full RS232 control via serial communications and the IP66 model has full RS485 control via serial communications. A simple security protection code protects set functions and a comprehensive security protection that can be incorporated to protect dispensing parameters and calibration values.
